When it comes to sizing up preseason players to watch in Boston, the first place to look is in the elite prep school scene as many of the top club athletes attend NEPSAC schools such as Brooks School, Rivers School and Milton Academy. So it’s no surprise those schools account for six of our 11 to watch this fall.
Here’s a glance at the players to watch this fall:
<strong>FORWARDS:</strong> [player_tooltip player_id="12134" first="Naderson" last="Curtis"] was an All-Scholastic performer for both the Boston Herald and Boston Globe. He was the Cape Ann League Baker Player of the Year following a 12-goal, four-assist showing in the Manchester-Essex’s 10-game schedule last fall. ... [player_tooltip player_id="11881" first="Adam" last="Stelljes"] guided Archbishop Williams to the Catholic Central League Cup in 2020. He netted 17 goals to lead the league in scoring. Stelljes plays club soccer for Juventus Soccer Academy.
<strong>MIDFIELDERS: </strong>[player_tooltip player_id="29190" first="Christian" last="Bejar"] is the top midfield prospect in the Boston area, and the Brooks School senior already has committed to Boston College. Like the rest of the NEPSAC players, Bejar did not have a high school season during the 2020-21 school year. ... A dynamic playmaker, Beverly’s [player_tooltip player_id="12143" first="Nicholas" last="Braganca"] was an All-Scholastic performer for both the Boston Herald and Boston Globe in 2020. he finished the season with nine goals and 10 assists. ... Like Braganca, Norwell’s [player_tooltip player_id="12131" first="Mischa" last="Spasic"] was an All-Scholastic performer for both the Boston Herald and Boston Globe. He was the South Shore Sullivan MVP and has been a league all-star the past two years. ... Milton Academy’s [player_tooltip player_id="12230" first="Wyatt" last="Walley"] hails from a soccer family. His brother plays at Columbia. His father played at Harvard. His grandfather on his mother’s side started one of the most successful club programs in the Boston area. Walley did not have a high school season last year but is being courted by several NCAA Division I programs, especially Ivy League schools.
<strong>DEFENDERS:</strong> The lone junior on this year’s Boston preseason watch list is [player_tooltip player_id="12016" first="Harry" last="Bertos"] of Brooks School. He’s another prep school player who did not have a season in 2020-21. In fact, all four of our preseason defenders are prep players who did not have seasons last year. ... Colgate commit [player_tooltip player_id="29189" first="Calvin" last="Lemley"] of Rivers School has been a standout at both the club and high school levels. ... Milton Academy is expected to challenge for the NEPSAC title this year and if it makes a run, defenders [player_tooltip player_id="29191" first="Henri" last="Richter"] and [player_tooltip player_id="12234" first="Zachary" last="Sardi-Santos"] might have a lot to do with the team’s success. Richter has committed to Northwestern.
<strong>GOALKEEPER:</strong> [player_tooltip player_id="11990" first="Eric" last="Widrick"] of Arlington gets the nod at goalkeeper after posting six shutouts in 2020. He allowed only three goals in league play last year.
