A normal high-school soccer season is about to commence in Wisconsin. This will be the first time since 2019 that every high school soccer program in the state will be competing at the same time. Last year, about half the soccer programs in Wisconsin elected to play an alternative season in the spring instead of the fall.
As the high school season begins, here’s our preseason Milwaukee All-Metro squad:
<strong>FORWARDS:</strong> Whitefish Bay senior [player_tooltip player_id="18490" first="Mitchell" last="Dryden"] was a United Soccer Coaches All-American as a junior. The Division I prospect is expected to lead Whitefish Bay to a state title run this fall. ... Arrowhead senior [player_tooltip player_id="18443" first="Enzo" last="Bova"] played<span style="font-size: 1rem;"> a major part in Arrowhead’s run to the Division 1 state championship game last season. He scored more than a dozen goals. ... Marquette senior [player_tooltip player_id="18515" first="Valentin" last="Sandoval"] is returning following a season where he scored 10 goals and served up four assists. Look for his numbers to increase this season.</span>
<strong>MIDFIELDERS:</strong> Pewaukee senior [player_tooltip player_id="29254" first="Lucas" last="Nesthus"] is an elite midfielder who plays with a lot of pace. He already has committed to Marquette. Nesthus helped Pewaukee to the Division 1 sectional semifinal before bowing out to eventual state runner-up Arrowhead. ... Senior [player_tooltip player_id="18476" first="Langdon" last="Gryglas"], who has committed to Brown, helped lead Arrowhead to the state championship game last fall before losing to national powerhouse Marquette. He was a member of last season’s WSCA Best XI, and he can play defense, midfield or forward. He tends to be feature more as a defensive midfielder for Arrowhead. ... Marquette senior [player_tooltip player_id="18488" first="Miguel" last="Gonzalez"] figures to be a key performer for the defending state champs.
<strong>DEFENDERS:</strong> Waterford Union senior [player_tooltip player_id="30136" first="Sam" last="Torhorst"] is expected to play high school soccer this fall. The talented defender is committed to Wisconsin-Milwaukee. ... Marquette senior [player_tooltip player_id="18509" first="Sam" last="Magner"] is one of the top returners for the best high school soccer program in the state. He’s an extremely athletic defender with a great work ethic and will look to defend Marquette’s state crown this fall. ... Muskego senior [player_tooltip player_id="30135" first="Nikita" last="Gladkov"] played a major role in Muskego’s run to the WIAA sectional final. The all-state performer can play all over the field. He scored 10 goals last season while mainly playing defense or midfield. ... Brookfield East senior [player_tooltip player_id="18519" first="William" last="Phillips"] is an exceptional athlete who returned to the high school game after spending a few years at Shattuck-St. Mary’s.
<strong>GOALKEEPER: </strong>Oconomowoc senior [player_tooltip player_id="30132" first="Asher" last="Harris"] gets the nod since [player_tooltip player_id="18456" first="Jack" last="Moxom"] of Whitefish Bay, a Best XI last year as a junior, has opted to focus on club soccer this fall with FC Cincinnati. Harris is listed at 6-2, 205, which is an excellent size to be an elite collegiate goalkeeper. He was an all-state selection as a junior and has multiple years of varsity experience.
