Today, we will take a look at the top high school goal-scoring threats in Indiana who are lighting up the scoreboard so far this season. These five players will be giving defenders problems all season.
Chase Martin, Tell City, Senior
Chase Martin has come flying out of the gates in his senior season. Through just five games, Martin has bagged 13 goals for Tell City. On top of that, Martin has shown that he has the ability to be a provider as well, recording four assists. Martin has scored in four of Tell City’s first five matches. To understand what kind of a threat he can be in front of goal, look no further than the season opener. In that game, Martin found the back of the net on seven different occasions. Tell City has gotten off to a 4-0-1 start and Chase Martin’s goal-scoring prowess is a big part of the reason why.
Christian Gallo, Lafayette Central Catholic, Senior
Three is a magic number. The start to the season for Christian Gallo might just be further evidence of that statement. Gallo has scored 12 goals in four games, bringing his season average to three goals per match. He has posted two hat tricks already this year. And as if that was not enough, double three and you come to six, which is the exact amount that he scored in a match earlier this season against Benton Central. Gallo is a versatile player, capable of playing both midfielder and forward. That can be a luxury for a coach as it will be a lot easier to get him on the field.
Eli Pierson, Batesville, Senior
Batesville has started the 2021 campaign with four straight wins. In those four wins, they have managed to keep a clean sheet every time out and they have outscored their opposition by a cumulative total of 31-0. Driving their offensive success has been Eli Pierson. Similar to the aforementioned Christian Gallo, Pierson has recorded two hat tricks this season. Furthermore, he assisted on two goals in Batesville’s win against Rushville.
Dana Lewis, South Decatur, Junior
Dana Lewis has gotten off to a tremendous start for South Decatur. Through four games, Lewis has scored 10 goals and chipped in two assists. From those 10 goals, Lewis has three hat tricks. Even better, he had a four-goal outing earlier in the season against Greenfield. Lewis has mustered 37 total shots this year, demonstrating that he can apply constant pressure on the opposing backline and goalkeeper.
Owen Duff, Flora Carroll, Junior
Like Lewis, Owen Duff has accounted for 10 goals in Flora Carroll’s first four games of the year. He has two hat tricks in those four matches and one of those hat tricks was a five-goal game for Duff against Eastern. Flora Carroll is 4-1-0 and they can be ambitious with their team goals for the remainder of the season. If Duff continues to be effective in front of goal, those aspirations will be attainable.
