Throughout the season, PrepSoccer.net will focus on the top candidates for the PrepSoccer All-America honors. Today, we check out the leading candidates in goal for fall-playing states. Seven of our nine leaders already have committed to NCAA Division I programs.

TOP ALL-AMERICA CANDIDATES

(in alphabetical order)

[player_tooltip player_id="15145" first="Eric" last="Axtman"], Central Dauphin (Pa.), Sr.

Axtman committed to Lafayette last week, just before Central Dauphin started regular-season play. In the team’s lone outing, Central Dauphin routed Cedar Cliff 10-0.

[player_tooltip player_id="29205" first="Ryan" last="Friedberg"], Westfield (N.J.), Sr.

The 6-foot-4 Cornell commit needed to make only one save in Westfield’s 3-0 winning debut last week against Union. He also played for the school’s basketball team the past two school years.

[player_tooltip player_id="29224" first="Zach" last="Glesius"], Avon Lake (Ohio), Sr.

Glesius might fly beneath the radar since Avon Lake is not a household name when it comes to Ohio high school soccer. However, he has committed to Virginia Tech and has posted a pair of shutouts this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="14674" first="Patrick" last="McLaughlin"], St. Ignatius (Ohio), Jr.

The 6-foot-2 junior keeper already is being courted by several of the top Division I colleges in the Midwest. It certainly helps that his father is a former Division I player and his older brother currently plays at Notre Dame. McLaughlin is part of a St. Ignatius defense that has six shutouts in eight matches.

[player_tooltip player_id="29203" first="Rafa" last="Ponce de Leon"], Pennington School (N.J.), Sr.

The 6-foot-3 Villanova commit is among the top goalkeepers in the country. He recorded the shutout in Pennington’s one-sided season-opening victory.

[player_tooltip player_id="11799" first="Mikah" last="Seger"], Lackey (Md.), Sr.

The Maryland commit plays at Lackey, a mid-sized public school in Southern Maryland, well outside of the flash of the more populated metro areas in the state. Since Lackey will roll many of its league foes, look for Seger to see time on the field. In fact, in the team’s season-opening 11-0 win, he posted a pair of first-half saves, then assisted a goal.

[player_tooltip player_id="12671" first="Ryan" last="Thompson"], Rockhurst Jesuit (Mo.), Sr.

The former Sporting Kansas City youth club player is the top keeper in the Kansas City area and a returning all-state selection. He has Rockhurst off to a 5-1 start this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="11990" first="Eric" last="Widrick"], Arlington (Mass.), Sr.

The season just started in Massachusetts. Last school year, Widrick posted six shutouts during an abbreviated season. Widrick has committed to Colgate.

OTHERS TO WATCH

[player_tooltip player_id="11105" first="Alex" last="Ainsworth"], Loyola Academy (Ill.), Sr.

[player_tooltip player_id="12149" first="Nikola" last="Antic"], Rivers School (Mass.), Sr.

[player_tooltip player_id="12828" first="Alexander" last="Borto"], Gill St. Bernard’s (N.J.), Sr.

[player_tooltip player_id="11460" first="Enrique" last="Calderon"], duPont Manuel (Ky.), Sr.

Carter Diggs, St. Thomas Aquinas (Kan.), Sr.

[player_tooltip player_id="12650" first="Luke" last="Dillon"], Ft. Zumwalt South (Mo.), Sr.

[player_tooltip player_id="11738" first="Jordon" last="Eckman"], Loyola (Md.), Jr.

[player_tooltip player_id="30132" first="Asher" last="Harris"], Oconomowoc (Wis.), Sr.

[player_tooltip player_id="11308" first="Gabe" last="Ingle"], Noblesville (Ind.), Sr.

Evan Linsley, Anchor Bay (Mich.), Sr.

[player_tooltip player_id="13587" first="Jack" last="Root"], Williamsville East (N.Y.), Sr.

[player_tooltip player_id="9038" first="Evan" last="Sims"], Boulder (Colo.), Sr.

Gabriel Stevens, Riverdale (Ore.), Sr.
