The 2006 Beach FC U16 boys started off their season in the Virginia Premier Soccer League ECNL Regional League (VA) with two clean sheet wins. The Hampton Roads Soccer Complex hosted the North/South crossover matches against two northern foes, Great Falls Reston (GFR) and Vienna. Saturday saw Beach come away with a hard-fought 2-0 win versus GFR and then backed it up on Sunday with a dominant 5-0 win over Vienna.
Players to watch:
F Ryan Buckon, First Colonial, Class of 2024
A tough match-up for opposing center backs, Ryan is a tall, fast striker who also has quick feet for his size. Definitely has a scorer’s mentality and looks to go to goal. Doesn’t need a lot of space to get off his quick shot, which is an absolute rocket off of his right foot. Also showed the ability to go wide and provide service back into the box. Great acceleration with the ball on his foot.
CM Carl Biboum, Granby, Class of 2024
A very active attacking midfielder who has good size and uses his body well in tight spaces. Constantly moved around and wanted the ball, not afraid to challenge defenders with skill and/or his physical strength. In my opinion, he was the best attacking player on the field on Sunday. He has a solid first touch and quick movements once he receives the ball.
CB Jonathan Kidd, First Colonial, Class of 2024
Very capable center-back who has an excellent vision of the field in front of him and directed play. Beach plays it out of the back, and the play goes through Kidd. Good in the air and had above-average speed for a center back as no one got in behind him. Delivered penetrating diagonal balls when his outside mids were open. Two clean sheets over the weekend were a reflection of his dominant play.
CM Kishin Togashi, Princess Anne, Class of 2025
A leader on the field, he represents the captain’s armband well. Plays in a defensive role as a traditional six, and picks up the opponent’s attack well in the center of the pitch. A very versatile player who excels as a CDM but is also capable of playing anywhere on the backline. Dropped in to support his center backs when needed and just seemed to always be in the right position. Joined the attack and distributed quality passes in the final third.
