The Great River Classic drew to a close Saturday in dramatic fashion with FAB 50 No. 21 Marquette (Wis.) edging No. 36 St. Thomas Aquinas (Kan.) 3-2 in overtime of the Great River Medical Bracket championship match.

GREAT RIVER MEDICAL BRACKET
Championship
Marquette (Wis.) 3, St. Thomas Aquinas (Kan.) 2 (2OT): Miguel Gonzalez Miguel Gonzalez M Marquette | 2022 WI scored in the second overtime to give FAB 50 No. 21 Marquette the championship. The Hilltoppers opened the scoring on a penalty kick by Valentin Sandoval Valentin Sandoval F Marquette | 2022 WI . FAB 50 No. 36 St. Thomas Aquinas answered on a goal by Mark Mason and took the lead in the second half on a PK goal by Ethan Young. Marquette answered quickly on a Sean Dankert goal setting up the golden goal game-winner for Gonzalez. This was Marquette’s first bracket title since the event relocated to Burlington, Iowa.

HEARTLAND LODGE BRACKET
Championship
Wheaton Academy (Ill.) 5, Middleton (Wis.) 2: Wheaton Academy scored five unanswered goals to capture the Heartland Lodge bracket championship. Chris Vanden Boom scored twice to give Middleton the early lead 2-0. However, the Wisconsin team could not hold on as Giovanni Nicoski netted a hat trick, and single tallies by Brayden Vandervelde and Asher Barton gave Wheaton Academy the title in their return to the Great River Classic.

Althoff Catholic (Ill.) 1, Normal University (Ill.) 0: Evan Price’s second-half goal gave Althoff the victory in a battle of two Illinois Class 1 state contenders.
Washburn Rural (Kan.) 3, Normal Community (Ill.) 1: Easton Bradstreet’s goal broke a 1-1 tie as Washburn Rural went 3-0 on the weekend. Kaden Hill put Jr. Blues on the board, but Normal Community answered on a goal by Ulises Castaneda. Devon Rutschmann scored as well for Washburn Rural.

Quincy (Ill.) 4, Columbia (Ill.) 1: The Blue Devils erupted for four second-half goals to erase a 1-0 halftime deficit to pick up their first win of the weekend. Tyler Herman gave Columbia the early lead, but the second half was a different story. Spencer Jenkins scored three goals and Boen Brockmiller added a goal for the final margin.
Morton (Ill.) 2, Glenwood (Ill.) 1: Joe Campbell and Nathan Sinclair scored goals for the Potters to go 3-0 on the weekend. The Glenwood goal was scored by Carter Downen.
