Now, with promotion to Division II, the Bobcats are seeking to repeat as champions. There are many reasons they can do so, with most of the team returning. Here are six players who can lead them to another winning season.
Kira Carney, Junior, Midfielder
Carney can play the central midfield or the attacking midfield. She is a calm, collected player who gets a lot of freedom to create. So calm that she can actually surprise her opponents, and her coach Madison McLean, because she can see something others don’t and find a player making a run that nobody else will see. She has great shot and pass placement. Carney plays for the City SC 2005 Academy team.
Brooklyn Gold, Senior, Central Defender/Sweeper
Another player who shows good composure in keeping the ball and a good understanding of the game. As the center of the defense, she needs to be a good communicator and she is. She can be relied on to play anywhere and McLean is confident she will do well. She is a very agile, dynamic player who plays for the 2004 DPL team and is committed to Metro State.
Meghan Swiatlowski, Senior, Forward
Swiatlowski is a workhorse who has great speed on the outside. She is a great passer as well as a finisher, and she can be put anywhere on the pitch to mark out an opposing player. She also plays on the 2004 DPL team.
Lily O’Grady Lily O’Grady M CA , Senior, Right Back
A commit to the University of Denver, O’Grady plays on the 2004 GA team. Last season, as a junior, she led the team in assists from the right back position, meaning she can really push up the pitch. She has a great first touch, great speed and a very strong leg for crossing into the box.
Seren Johnson, Junior, Central Midfielder
Johnson usually plays the No. 8 position while Carney plays the No. 10, and she holds the midfield down. She moves off the ball very well and her movement helps the team to create opportunities to attack or avoid the high press because of her use of space and her ability to move the ball quickly. She plays on the 2005 DPL team.
Samantha Bickerstaff, Junior, Holding Midfielder
Another 2005 DPL player, Bickerstaff is a fantastic taker of set pieces. She also has a great shot on top of being a very technically sound player who works hard, has composure on the ball and is a good distributor.
