Kendall Chase, Meagan McCray, Tim Lincecum and Jared Goff. Those are just a few of the big-named athletes to come out of Marin County in recent years. To name all the famous athletes from Marin County would be a time-consuming, yet worthwhile, endeavor. One thing that Marin County is loaded with, year in and year out, is girls soccer talent. The amount of talent is staggering, and the Division I offers tell the story. The list of top players was too hard to pare down too much, so instead of leaving out deserving student-athletes, here is a list of 19 players from Marin County that are currently turning heads. [player_tooltip player_id="20097" first="Riley" last="Anderson"], Redwood, Senior, Central Defender A great athlete at center back and is excellent in 1v1 situations. She is also solid with the ball at her feet. She plays as an attack-minded left back for her club. [player_tooltip player_id="20260" first="Sydney" last="Boyd"], Tamalpais, Senior, Striker Boyd is the finisher for Tam. She is the team’s leading scorer and knows how to score goals. She is committed to UC Santa Cruz and plays Club for Marin FC Blue 04. Sloane Carey, Marin Catholic, Freshman, Midfielder Carey is a technically gifted player that is very smart with the ball and has the physical qualities to be a presence on the pitch, asserting herself at a young age. Ellie Casey, Archie Williams, Senior, Defensive Midfielder Casey plays the six for the Peregrine Falcons, and is terrific with her defensive positioning. She shows quality in possession and her passing range is quite good. She’s disciplined, always covering her center backs. Patricia dePalma, Branson, Junior, Keeper dePalma is a really good shot stopper who is aggressive when playing a ball in the air. She has the ability to distribute the ball all over the field from her box and the ball being at her feet is a strength. [player_tooltip player_id="37580" first="Stella" last="Espinasse"], Tamalpais, Junior, Midfielder Espinase should be a name you hear about committing to a school this Spring, and plays for the Marin FC Blue 05 team. She is a player with great vision, creative on the dribble and excellent in making the final pass. She has a fantastic work rate. Sydney Fong, San Marin, Senior, Attacking Midfielder Fong, a commit to the University of San Diego, is a very technically clean player, who is good on the dribble. She plays with an edge and is fearless when it comes to the physical portion of the game. [player_tooltip player_id="19934" first="Mia" last="Hamant"], Redwood, Senior, Keeper The University of Washington commit and Marin FC Blue 04 standout, is a next level player. She plays the angles as well as anyone in Northern California, she has strong hands, she’s long and she dominates in the air. Her ability to play with her feet is what really sets her apart and she should make an impact in the Pac-12. Gabby Hoebrichts, Tamalpais, Sophomore, Central Defender A super sophomore playing for Marin FC Blue 06, Hoebrichts is a great athlete. She’s brave in making tackles, she is very good at pushing forward from the back and helping build up the attack as well. Olivia Holt, Tamalpais, Freshman, Striker Holt plays club for the Bay Area Surfriders 07 team and is an out and out striker who has scored big goals already for Tam. She is a powerful player, who plays physically and can run at players. Photo: Devon Johnson, Branson[/caption] Ally Hsieh, Branson, Freshman, Striker A true two-footed No. 9 with great balance and movement off the ball and is a very good finisher. Only a freshman, Shieh will be a player to watch for some time. [player_tooltip player_id="19169" first="Avery" last="Jones"], Redwood, Senior, Central Midfielder A true box-to-box midfielder that not only covers the whole pitch, but is adept at winning the ball and is a threat to score from range. [player_tooltip player_id="19684" first="Kaya" last="Lash"], Terra Linda, Senior, Center Back [caption id="attachment_37297" align="alignright" width="300"] [player_tooltip player_id="19684" first="Kaya" last="Lash"]. Photo: Devon Johnson, Branson[/caption]Lash is a very intelligent player that reads play very well. She is a player that can do it all... she steps in and intercepts passes, she wins tackles, she wins the ball in the air. She plays at a high level out of the back, and can also deliver a great free kick. Yuna McCormick, Tamalpais, Junior, Midfielder McCormick is a top class player, as has been noted. She makes the game look easy in getting past defenders and controlling the ball in tight spaces and creating space. She can do it all in the midfield and in the attacking third. She is committed to the University of Virginia. Riley Pearson, Branson, Freshman, Midfielder Another terrific freshman athlete for the Bulls who has an engine that does not quit. She’s talented at winning the ball and always finds a way to leave her impact on the game. Brianna Salvetti, Redwood, Senior, Striker A fantastic finisher with technical qualities and creativity to finish in multiple ways makes Salvetti one of the best strikers in the North Bay. She has exceptional feel for when and where to arrive in the box. Zoe Shephard, Marin Catholic, Senior, Striker The University of Arkansas commit plays with pace, tenacity and has the ability to run with the ball so well that she can score from range, and do so with either foot. She is a truly special player. [player_tooltip player_id="19785" first="Lena" last="Sugrue"], Branson, Senior, Central Defender A center back who plays as a senior center back should. She reads the game very well, uses her body well to dispossess opponents and is good in the air. She’s a strong player and a leader in the back. Maya Wells, Archie Williams, Senior, Attacking Midfielder. Wells is a Utah Valley commit and is very smooth on the ball. She’s very creative with her passes, she sees options that others don’t and has the confidence to try things that others won’t.
