[player_tooltip player_id="14674" first="Patrick" last="McLaughlin"], a 6-foot-3 goalkeeper from St. Ignatius (Ohio), has verbally committed to Ohio State, his family confirmed Thursday.
He is the second straight St. Ignatius starting keeper to commit to the Buckeyes, joining Peter Van Euwen, who currently is a sophomore at the university and a redshirt freshman athletically.
McLaughlin recorded 17 shutouts as the Wildcats went 23-0 last fall to claim a third straight FAB 50 national title and third straight state title. He allowed only one goal in St. Ignatius’ seven playoff wins in 2021.
He plays club soccer for FC Evolution Pennine 05, one of the top club teams in the country. His older brother, Matthew, is a field player for Notre Dame.
[player_tooltip player_id="14674" first="Patrick" last="McLaughlin"] is the latest in a growing trend of Ohio State signing in-state players who played high school ball. That list includes McLaughlin’s 2021 teammate [player_tooltip player_id="14645" first="Luciano" last="Pechota"] and current Buckeyes Ty Konrad and Blake Collins, and all three were High School Game All-America participants.
