Sizing up the best of Massachusetts’ 2023 girls players

The initial list of Massachusetts Class of 2023 girls players to watch features a trio of major-college prospects and plenty of NCAA Division I-bound talent.
It is important to note, this is the inaugural list. Additional players will be added once they are evaluated through the spring club season. But to kick off things, here’s a look at the top three players and info on a handful who played high school soccer this past fall.
<strong>F [player_tooltip player_id="22759" first="Sophie" last="Reale"], Hingham (Mass.)/South Shore Select, UCLA</strong>
It’s a tight battle for state No. 1 between Reale and Kiorpes, a pair of elite players with U.S. Youth National Team experience. Reale was part of the U.S. Under-18/19 Virtual Camp roster last spring. She played high school soccer this past fall, starring as Hingham reached the state final. Reale scored 27 goals and added 21 assists. She was named to the Boston Globe All-Scholastic team. During the high school season, she committed to UCLA, where her older sister currently plays.
<strong>F [player_tooltip player_id="22756" first="Nicollette" last="Kiorpes"], NEFC, Penn State</strong>
Kiorpes had a banner fall season. It started with being named to the U.S. Under-17 National Camp roster in October, followed by an appearance at the U17 WNT camp in November. Not long after, Kiorpes committed to Penn State.

<strong>D [player_tooltip player_id="22878" first="Francesca" last="Valverde"], FC Stars</strong>
Valverde has been pulled into U.S. Youth National Team camps as a U-15 and U17 player. She starred at last summer’s ECNL Under-16 National Championships and recently was named to the ECNL FL selection game during the recent ECNL Showcase.
From the high school ranks …
<strong>F [player_tooltip player_id="22813" first="Bria" last="Abbiati"], Newton South (Mass.)/Scorpions SC</strong>
The multi-sport star helped her high school team to the state semifinals in 2021. She finished the season with 13 goals and five assists and earned Boston Globe All-Scholastic honors.
<strong>M [player_tooltip player_id="38322" first="Maddie" last="Landers"], Pingree School (Mass.)</strong>
Landers played a key postseason role as Pingree reached the NEPSAC B final. She had 13 goals and 12 assists on the season, but three of those goals came in the NEPSAC B semifinal victory that sent the team to the final.
<strong>M [player_tooltip player_id="22966" first="Maya" last="Mathis"], Acton-Boxboro (Mass.)/South Shore Select, Connecticut</strong>
The UConn commit was a Boston Globe All-Scholastic selection after garnering Dual County League Player of the Year honors. Mathis is a defender on the club level, but a midfielder in high school, where she finished with 12 goals and nine assists.
<strong>F [player_tooltip player_id="38320" first="Ava" last="Murphy"], Winchester (Mass.)</strong>
Murphy netted 21 goals and earned Middlesex League Liberty Division MVP honors as a junior. She also was named to the Boston Globe All-Scholastic team.
