A great goalkeeper gives a coach a lot of confidence. They know that even if the defense is beaten that the opponent still has a lot of work to do. Indiana has top-class goalkeepers all around the state. Today, we will take a look at the four who are in our Class of 2023 rankings. These four are coming off of outstanding seasons, and they will be looking for more when they are seniors next fall.
[player_tooltip player_id="22367" first="Maryn" last="Weiger"], North Central, FC Pride Elite
All season long, [player_tooltip player_id="22367" first="Maryn" last="Weiger"] made big-time saves for North Central. Weiger uses good positioning, as well as quick reactions, to keep opposing strikers at bay. Her highlight film is replete with instances where she made outstanding saves. On the year, Weiger saw just under 1,100 minutes of action. During that time on the pitch, she came up with 66 saves while allowing only 11 goals. Weiger has the ability to make clutch saves in key moments. This is evidenced by the fact that she saved two penalty kicks this past season.
[player_tooltip player_id="22231" first="Kate" last="Phillips"], Indianapolis Cathedral, Indiana Fire Juniors
[player_tooltip player_id="22231" first="Kate" last="Phillips"] has committed to play in the SEC, as she will be playing her college soccer at the University of Missouri. The Tigers are getting an elite goalkeeper, who can play the sweeper-keeper role incredibly well. Phillips is quick to recognize when her defenders are in trouble, and she comes off her line to smother the attack. Also frustrating opponents is her ability to cut-out crosses as well as through balls. On top of her ability to make huge saves as well her reading of the game, Phillips contributes to starting attacks. She distributes the ball well and allows her team to build out of the back.
[player_tooltip player_id="22228" first="Aubree" last="Empie"], Carmel, Indy Premier Soccer Club
Throughout the 2021 season, whenever the Carmel Greyhounds needed [player_tooltip player_id="22228" first="Aubree" last="Empie"] to make a save, she delivered. Empie does well to deny shots that look to be headed for the corner of the net. She can make the acrobatic saves that rescue the team. Empie logged a little over 900 minutes in goal for Carmel. The reliable shot-stopper posted 38 saves. She maintained a goals allowed average of just 0.703. Look for [player_tooltip player_id="22228" first="Aubree" last="Empie"] to have an outstanding conclusion to her high school career next season.
[player_tooltip player_id="37262" first="Peyton" last="Hull"], Saint Joseph, FC Pride Elite
[player_tooltip player_id="37262" first="Peyton" last="Hull"] made save-after-save for Saint Joseph this year, demonstrating just why she will be playing Division I college soccer at Samford. Hull played almost 1,600 minutes this past season. In doing so, she recorded an incredible 84 saves. Hull allowed just nine goals on the season, and she posted a goals allowed per match average of just 0.457. Hull also managed to score one goal this season. [player_tooltip player_id="37262" first="Peyton" last="Hull"] can be a prospect that we hear a lot about at the next level.
