Onyeka Gamero Onyeka Gamero F Whitney (CA) | 2024 State CA is a one-move type of player because she only needs a half-space to get past you. With excellent body control and a jaw-dropping first step, the Beach FC winger is nearly impossible to stop in space. And once she is past you, forget about catching up until the ball is in the back of the net. She has game-breaking speed and a lethal right foot – check out the first goal in the highlight clip below. Gamero’s play at the club level has earned the attention of youth national team scouts as she is a member of the U.S. U17 Women’s National Team. She is the no. 1 player in the Prep Soccer Girls Class of 2024 California Rankings, which was released on Wednesday.
Gamero’s club teammate Tanner Ijams Tanner Ijams GK El Segundo (CA) | 2024 State #14 Nation CA is the No. 1 keeper for the state in the class of 2024 and No. 3 overall prospect. There is a lot to like about Ijams projection as a goalkeeper for the college level. She has the size and athleticism to be a day one starter at a top program. She is relatively polished too for being such a young prospect. She moves her feet really well prior to shots so she has a strong base to reach shots at any angle. Beyond her shot stopping, her distribution is among the best from any class for the position.
Paloma Daubert Paloma Daubert null | D Ponderosa (CA) | 2024 State #52 Nation CA is one of the players to keep an eye on for the possibility to shoot up the list in the future. The San Juan Soccer Club prospect is one of the more intriguing recruits from the state in this class. Daubert is normally described as a wing back in her role for her club, but that could be a limiting role for college soccer as the right program has to buy into that formation choice to utilize a player in that role. It’s unfair to pigeon-hole her into that description though. She has so much attacking talent – vision, 1v1 abilities, passing, and finishing – that playing her at winger should not be out of the question. She also has more than enough defensively just to fit in the more traditional outside back role. It feels cruel to only let her star in one role, which is why her club team utilizes her so well (and her high school team just sets her loose on the wing). Daubert is one to watch this Spring.
A 5-foot-11 midfielder who is willing to do the hard work in the center of the field don’t grow on trees, so it’s no wonder Ines Derrien Ines Derrien M Torrey Pines (CA) | 2024 State #45 Nation CA is a highly regarded 2024 recruit from California. The San Diego Surf player has excellent vision and is one of the best playmakers in this class. She is a weapon on set pieces with her ability to win aerial duels. She has nimble footwork and a good left foot. She is a key player on the San Diego Surf U16 team, which includes a few other players in the Prep Soccer Class of 2024 rankings.
