PrepSoccer was on hand for the action on Saturday. There were plenty of standouts from the games on the first day as some teams made a statement win while others battled back to snag a point.
M Zach Garma, Arsenal FC of Pittsburgh 06 (PA) – Garma does everything well in possession, but notably the way he changes his body position before receiving the ball to open up to the open space on the field really sets him apart from his peers. He also does well in checking his shoulders and scanning the field.
D Luke Fiscus, Arsenal FC of Pittsburgh 06 (PA) – Fiscus is a center back who is an aggressive ball tackler. He is a good athlete with recovery speed, which suggests a possibility at outside back in the future. Amir Awais and Andrew McKim were also standouts for Arsenal.
GK Iain Lanphier, SC del Sol Academy II (AZ) – Lanphier showed his athleticism with a great save early in the game. He was also a standout with his distribution. Center back Roberto Cardenas IV was also excellent at distribution. He showed excellent technique in striking the ball.
D Luke Manandic, United PDX 07 (OR) – Manandic has good size and athleticism for a center back in the U15 age group. He was a weapon on set pieces for his side. Tristan Peia is clean on the ball and a play maker in the center of the field.
F Ty Collins, Azzurri Storm 07 (FL) – Collins has elite pace. He can run past defenders with ease at this level. He has good ball control and finishing instincts. He has an engine on him too, so he works back to help his side. Alexander Bulaitudor is a quality passer with creativity from the middle third.
F Shalom Adja, SAC Pre-Academy 07B (MD) – Adja is an attacking talent who strikes the ball so hard that he seems angry at it. Adja has quick feet and can escape a challenge with his first step and change of pace.
M Sean Delaney, Sparta United 06 (UT) – Delaney is a workhorse center midfielder. He personifies the Sparta team, which tries to outwork the opponent in every game. Vincent Huff is an eager defender that did well on Saturday. He flew in on challenges and blocked shots.
F Cristian Valencia Ramirez, LVSA 05 (NV) – Valencia Ramirez had a moment that summed up his day. The winger showcased impressive control with both feet to skate around defenders while beating three before having enough balance to finish the chance. The winger has lots of quality on the ball. Quentin Gomez did well for the side at center back.
M Tiziano Ferras, Juventus Zoff (FL) – Ferras had a strong showing in the first half against LVSA. Ferras is a midfielder who looks calm on the ball and can make a variety of passes. He tends to hone in on a passing option early, which he will need to improve on for the next level and he develops into a midfielder who sees the whole field.
D Kehmar Green, FC Europa (PA) 06 – Green has the athletic profile to be a key piece at the next level. He has the size, speed, and smarts for the jump up. He plays right center back for his side and leads the defensive group. George Ziogas was a promising prospect from the midfield. He is physical and hard to knock off the ball.
D Alexander Echazabal, West Pines United 06 (FL) – Echazabal is a center back who reads the game really well. He is adjusts his level defensively to assist his teammates and also get in position to cut out passes or block chances.
F Ryan Wrobleski, SC Wave 06 (WI) – Wrobleski is a traditional winger in the sense that he is going to put his head down and beat you to the end line when he wants to. He did just that for SC Wave’s first goal on Saturday, Justin Ramirez scored on the cross.
M Hudson Scheiber, SC Wave 06 (WI) – Scheiber was the best passer on the day. It was not just long-range passes. He made the right decision on the ball regularly, whether that was a simple pass or a pass to unlock the defense by splitting the lines.
