2A Fenwick 0, De La Salle 0 (Fenwick wins in PKs): A tremendous defensive display for both programs. Goalkeeper Audrey Hinrichs came through on the final kick of the shootout to send them downstate. Fenwick controlled most of this game, but De La Salle’s defense was terrific. Despite the loss, the Meteors have a very bright future. Triad 2, Glenwood 0: Despite only two goals, Triad seemingly controlled this entire game. Macy Mell assisted Breanna Zurek off a cross just over ten minutes in. Avery Bohnenstiehl scored fifteen minutes later to double the lead off a Kinlee Lippert Corner Kick. Two of their key players, Gabby Wood and Laney Harshany, have been injured. But it seems like that hasn’t slowed them down. Benet 1, Dunlap 0: Another historic season continues for the redwings. The game stayed scoreless for the first 65 minutes of play. The defense was especially impressive. But Benet finally broke through late. Senior leader Mariana Pinto played freshman Keira Petrucelli open in the box for an easy goal. GK [player_tooltip player_id="41725" first="Shannon" last="Clark"] also made some great saves throughout the game to secure the shutout. Deerfield 2, Rockford Boylan 2 (Deerfield wins in PKs): This was definitely the most exciting matchup in 2A. Boylan opened up the scoring in the first half after Maggie Schmidt played a nice through ball to Kyra Cruikshank. Deerfield responded late in that half with a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner by Emily Fox. Boylan would regain the lead in the second half with a beautiful goal from 25 yards out by Izze Fritz. But again, Deerfield took advantage of their chances as Emily Fox buried a PK to send it to OT. After two scoreless periods, Deerfield dominated the shootout to go downstate. 3A Barrington 3, St. Charles East 0: The Fillies outplayed the Saints on both ends. It started from the very beginning with an early goal from Cornell commit [player_tooltip player_id="22081" first="Brooke" last="Brown"]. Then, Grace Stagnito took advantage of the wind at her back to bury a 35-yard free kick early. Early in the 2nd half, freshman sensation [player_tooltip player_id="33353" first="Piper" last="Lucier"] drew a foul in the box, and Brown buried the PK. The defense held on for a 3-0 win. Evanston 2, Libertyville 0 (OT): Both programs have the talent and experience to win a state championship. This game was scoreless for the entire 80 minutes of regulation and the first 10-min overtime period. It wasn’t until the 92nd minute when sophomore superstar Jocelyn Leigh broke the tie. She doubled the advantage six minutes later to send the Wildkits to state. Lincoln-Way Central 2, Glenbard West 1: Two second-half assists by defender Grace Gundhofer sealed the win for the Knights. After a major upset last Friday, the Hilltoppers season comes to a close. Metea Valley 2, Edwardsville 0: The dream season continues for the Mustangs. Junior [player_tooltip player_id="22221" first="Tyra" last="King"] opened the scoring off an assist from Leanne Barrett. Ella Johnson assisted Lucy Burk for the second and final goal of the game. Julia Straub preserved the shutout in goal. Metea Valley is the only program in Illinois to have not lost to an in-state opponent.
