MONTVERDE, Fla. -- One of the first stops for nearly every major college soccer program is Montverde Academy, a small private school in the Orlando suburbs.
For more than a decade, Montverde Academy, under the leadership of Mike Potempa, has churned out high-level college prospects and professional players under the SIMA/Montverde Academy banner. Since there is a developmental and showcase model in place, the older players are featured. But now, with the Class of 2022 winding down, it’s time to check out "Who’s Next" at Montverde Academy.
The top Class of 2023 prospects currently at Montverde Academy:
D [player_tooltip player_id="35611" first="Mohamed" last="Cisset"]: The talented left-footed center back has worked out for a professional team and visited the campus of ACC powerhouse programs since our last update. Cisset has been at Montverde since his freshman year and already was in the top competitive group before his junior season.
W [player_tooltip player_id="35613" first="Alfred" last="Baafi"]: A speedy wing player, Baafi also is entertaining professional possibilities. Like Cisset, he also is being courted by top NCAA Division I programs.
F [player_tooltip player_id="35612" first="Stephen" last="Annor"]: Annor, a clinical finisher, recently visited the University of Portland. He also has worked out for a pro team since a strong showing at the SIMA Showcase.
F [player_tooltip player_id="46730" first="Mohamed" last="Pouye"]: A native of Senegal, Pouye arrived at Montverde for the spring semester and might be a bit unknown at this point. That will soon change as Pouye will have elite college as well as professional interest by late fall.
M [player_tooltip player_id="46731" first="Osmond" last="Chan"]: Chan, Cisset and Annor were the only Class of ’23 prospects included in SIMA’s top lineup for the SIMA Showcase. Chan had a workout with a professional squad this spring.
GK [player_tooltip player_id="46732" first="Mason" last="Shale"]: Shale has emerged as the top ’23 goalkeeper in a very strong class that rivals the Montverde teams a few years ago when four senior keepers signed with Division I programs in one season.
M [player_tooltip player_id="46733" first="Mohammed" last="Ibrahim"]: Ibrahim, like Pouye, arrived on campus for the spring semester and is working his way into the Montverde program. The native of Ghana also will be a top-level prospect.
W [player_tooltip player_id="46734" first="Parker" last="Smith"] and GK [player_tooltip player_id="46735" first="Aecio" last="Da Fonte"] were Class of 2022 prospects who spent a good part of the year injured, according to Montverde Academy sources. Both will remain at Montverde Academy and become part of the ’23 recruiting class.
