The three preseason All-Metro forwards combined for 118 goals last year and most of the midfielders also were double-digit goal scorers. Once the assists are added to the totals, these attacking players were involved in well over 200 goals last season -- and they're back for more in 2022. </p>

<p><strong>FORWARDS:</strong> <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='54957' first='Anna' last='Babinski'] </strong>of Albuquerque Academy was the state's most prolific scorer in 2021 and she returns to lead what is another strong Class 4A state title contender. Babinski netted a staggering 52 goals last season while earning Albuquerque Journal All-Metro and 4A all-state first-team honors. ... <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='54961' first='Savanah' last='Sanchez']</strong> scored 42 goals while leading Hope Christian to the 4A state title last year. She was a second-team Albuquerque Journal All-Metro selection. ... Rounding out the forwards is<strong> [player_tooltip player_id='54958' first='Maddie' last='Hashagen']</strong> of Sandia Prep. A second-team Albuquerque Journal All-Metro pick, Hashagen scored 24 goals and assisted on 15 others last season.</p>

<p><strong>MIDFIELDERS: </strong>Hope Christian was a surprise state champ last year but this team won't sneak up on anyone in 2022. One of the key returnees for Hope Christian is <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='54956' first='Ashlyn' last='Salas']</strong>, who finished with 16 goals and 14 assists a year ago. Salas received Albuquerque Journal All-Metro and 4A all-state first-team honors. ... Sandia's <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='24333' first='Jordan' last='Candelaria'] </strong>makes a return visit to the Preseason All-Metro squad after a 2021 season where she scored 13 goals. She was an Albuquerque Journal All-Metro and 5A all-state first-team pick. ...<strong> [player_tooltip player_id='54954' first='Natasha' last='Montoya'] </strong>of St. Pius falls in that forward/midfielder category. She might be more of a forward this season, especially after netting 20 goals last year. But she'll start in our midfield to being the season. ... Sandia Prep's <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='54953' first='Mika' last='Juan']</strong> paired with [player_tooltip player_id='54958' first='Maddie' last='Hashagen'] for a formidable offensive last season. Juan earned second-team Albuquerque Journal honors after a season where she contributed 14 goals and seven assists. ... <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='54955' first='Olivia' last='Roskos']</strong> of Rio Rancho earned second-team Class 5A all-state and Albuquerque Journal All-Metro honors. </p>

<p><strong>DEFENDERS:</strong> The top returning defender is Cibola's <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='54952' first='Joyce' last='Sanchez']</strong>. Last season she anchored a defense that sported a 0.70 GAA and she chipped in with five goals and six assists. She was a Class 5A first-team all-state pick last year. ... Hope Christian returns <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='54960' first='Ravae' last='Jaramillo']</strong> on defense. A Class 4A first-team all-state pick led a defense that allowed only 10 goals in a 21-1 season. She also netted three goals and assisted on three.</p>

<p><strong>GOALKEEPER: </strong>Albuquerque Academy's <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='54959' first='Cara' last='Anderson'] </strong>gets the nod as preseason keeper this year. Last year she earned Class 4A first-team all-state honors in a year where the 5A and 4A top keepers were almost exclusively seniors. </p>
