Several elite players opted to skip the high school season this fall, including at least three first-team all-state honorees from 2021 who are all NCAA Division I commits. With those seniors not returning, the Louisville players to watch list skewed to the younger prospects. One team that seemed not to be hit too hard by the club exodus was South Oldham. Sure, they lost one bonafide all-state player but the Green Dragons have Louisville commit [player_tooltip player_id='55190' first='Betsy' last='Huckaby'] and Appalachian State [player_tooltip player_id='22477' first='Marley' last='Kahle'] back.

FORWARDS: [player_tooltip player_id='22477' first='Marley' last='Kahle'] of South Oldham led the team in assists last year as the squad finished as the state runner-up. The Appalachian State commit had 11 goals and 12 assists. ... Sacred Heart is a perennial Louisville power and this year's team could be centered around [player_tooltip player_id='55184' first='Caitlin' last='Chase']. The sophomore netted 21 goals and had 18 assists last year while playing the No. 2 scoring role behind multi-year all-state selection Mallory Glass. ... Ballard's [player_tooltip player_id='22451' first='Ella' last='Sanchez'], who scored 64 goals last year and was named the state's Player of the Year, has opted to focus on club soccer. That leaves the scoring pressure on [player_tooltip player_id='22491' first='Sophia' last='Gyimesi']. As a sophomore, she scored 12 goals and added 13 assists.

MIDFIELDERS: [player_tooltip player_id='55190' first='Betsy' last='Huckaby'] of South Oldham is an early candidate for Louisville area player of the year. The Louisville commit is coming off a season where she netted 14 goals and helped the team to a state final appearance. She was a second-team all-state honoree in 2021. ... [player_tooltip player_id='22492' first='Tate' last='Blincoe'] is one of only two first-team all-state returnees in the Louisville area this fall. Last year Blincoe helped Bardstown to a major upset victory over Sacred heart, which might be one of the most significant wins ever for the program. Blincoe scored 16 goals and had seven assists. ... A pair of Assumption players round out the midfield -- [player_tooltip player_id='31002' first='Ellie' last='Meyer'] and [player_tooltip player_id='22483' first='Olivia' last='Hass']. They were both a part of a balanced scoring attack that carried Assumption to a 14-5-2 season in 2021.

DEFENDERS: [player_tooltip player_id='55188' first='Ava' last='Roberson'] of South Oldham dished out five assists and scored seven goals while playing in a defensive role for the state runners-up. Roberson has committed to Murray State. ... [player_tooltip player_id='22426' first='Lilly' last='Lund'] continues Sacred Heart's youth movement as the second sophomore on the preseason 11. As a freshman, Lund was a key part of a defense that posted an 0.81 GAA and she chipped in with seven goals of her own. ... [player_tooltip player_id='55189' first='Rachel' last='Robinson'] was a second-team all-state performer last year for Atherton. She ended the season with two goals and four assists.

GOALKEEPER: [player_tooltip player_id='55187' first='Katie' last='Feeney'] returns after posting 12 shutouts and a 0.50 GAA last season. The South Oldham standout is only a junior and was a first-team all-state pick as a sophomore.
