North Texas boasts some of the best players and high-school programs out there. With so much local talent, it’s not surprising that five of the last seven state champions have come from this region (6A Girls). In this article we will be ranking the Top 5 Teams of Region 1 6A Girls for the upcoming 2022-23 season. These rankings are based upon how successful these programs were in 2021-22, and the top all-state and all-region players who will make a major impact on the 2022-23 season.
- Southlake Carroll
- Marcus (Flower-Mound)
- Allen
- Prosper
- McKinney Boyd
Overall, Southlake Carroll takes the number one spot. Rightfully so, as they are the reigning state champs who had three freshmen that received honors last year, including Kennedy Fuller Kennedy Fuller 5'5" | F Southlake Carroll (TX) | 2024 #1 Nation TX who was the state player of the year. Southlake will certainly be looking to go back-to-back in 2023.
2nd team all state: Olivia Geller Olivia Geller 5'9" | GK Southlake Carroll | 2025 State #56 Nation TX – Goal Keeper – (2025)
1st team all state: Kennedy Fuller Kennedy Fuller 5'5" | F Southlake Carroll (TX) | 2024 #1 Nation TX – Midfielder – (2024*) – Fuller reclassified as a 2024 commit on Sept. 28.
2nd team all state: Hannah Jordan Hannah Jordan null | M Southlake Carroll | 2025 State #19 Nation TX – Midfielder – (2025)
Marcus High School is in the second spot. For years Marcus has been one of the most relevant programs when it comes to Texas high school soccer. In 2023, a trio of talented juniors who received honors last season will be tasked with carrying on that tradition. Forwards Bella Campos and Maddie Reynolds will be leading the Marauders attack while Chloe Adams Chloe Adams null | D Marcus (TX) | 2023 TX will be holding down the back line this year as seniors. They will be seeking to build off last year’s great season and deep playoff run, and are definitely a squad to watch in 2023.
Honorable mention all state: Chloe Adams Chloe Adams null | D Marcus (TX) | 2023 TX – Defender – (2023)
Honorable mention all state: Bella Campos – Forward – (2023)
2nd team all region: Maddie Reynolds – Forward – (2023)
Allen has a storied history of producing great athletes, and this season is no different. They have three players who are coming off all-region honors. Ava McDonald Ava McDonald null | F State #11 Nation TX was named to the 1st team all-region as a freshman, and will certainly be looking to improve upon her stellar 2021-22 season. Meanwhile, the pair of D1 committed seniors Melania Fullerton Melania Fullerton M Allen (TX) | 2023 State #142 Nation TX and Lauren Woodruff Lauren Woodruff null | D Allen (TX) | 2023 State #39 Nation TX will be headlining the Eagles midfield in 2023.
Honorable mention all state: Melania Fullerton Melania Fullerton M Allen (TX) | 2023 State #142 Nation TX – Midfielder- (2023)
1st team all region: Lauren Woodruff Lauren Woodruff null | D Allen (TX) | 2023 State #39 Nation TX – Midfielder – (2023)
1st team all region: Ava McDonald Ava McDonald null | F State #11 Nation TX – Forward – (2025)
Prosper sits in the 4th spot largely due to a pair of juniors who were 2nd team all-state and 2nd team all-region respectively. Forward Emma Yolinsky Emma Yolinsky F Prosper (TX) | 2024 State #7 Nation TX made a name for herself last year as a major attacking threat, and will be leading the attack in 2022-23 (Yolinsky is a serious contender for the 2023 “Golden Boot”). Last season, Prosper’s playoff run ended prematurely and I suspect this early exit coupled with some supremely talented seniors will have the Eagles in the running for the state title in 2023.
2nd team all region: Beya Rosales – Defender – (2024)
2nd team all state: Emma Yolinsky Emma Yolinsky F Prosper (TX) | 2024 State #7 Nation TX – Forward – (2024)
McKinney Boyd rounds out the top 5. Last season Boyd had a solid year which saw the Broncos make it to the regional quarterfinal; and with a new head coach and loads of talent they are poised to make another deep playoff run in 2023. They are returning three 2021-22 all-region award winners who will be back for the upcoming season. These include: sophomore goal keeper Shelby Henderson Shelby Henderson null | GK McKinney Boyd | 2025 State TX , senior defender Taryn Thibeau, and star senior forward/U17 Mexican International player Lauren Omholt Lauren Omholt D McKinney Boyd (TX) | 2023 State #169 Nation TX .
