Sometimes hard to understand their importance and value if you strictly go off stats, watching them quickly shows their ability and why they’re so important to their teams. This class is full of elite players some recognizable nationally and other lesser-known players who have made a name for themselves. All playing at top high schools in the Georgia area, these girls have cemented themselves into their teams and are all looking to lead their schools into the playoffs and championships in the 2023 season.
#1 Riley Jackson Riley Jackson M Blessed Trinity (GA) | 2024 State GA , Blessed Trinity HS
Coming up first we have Riley who tops the overall and midfield rankings. Riley comes off an overall impressive previous season helping Blessed Trinity to a Championship appearance and going undefeated in their region with already committed to Duke as a junior and has made appearances with the National Team pool. Riley’s ability as a soccer player and athlete is highlighted in her ability to control games from midfield and do essentially every aspect of it at a high level. Typically operating deeper in midfield/box-to-box, she often wins the ball for her team and instantly gets her head up to either drive forward or settle and get possession for her team. She is great with both feet, accurate from set pieces, and can distribute to nearly anywhere on the field along with deep powerful driving runs with the ball to break lines. Her ability to dictate the tempo and make the game go at her pace adds to her expansive skill set.
#2 Ivy Tolbert Ivy Tolbert M Commerce (GA) | 2024 State #91 Nation GA , Commerce HS
Following we have Ivy who is coming off an extremely impressive individual and team season with Commerce HS as she finished the last season with a playoff run and over 100-point season. Her numbers through goals and assists back up her play and ability. Ivy is a dynamic player who operates as an attacking midfielder but scores like a striker. Her ability to beat players on the dribble, find space, and finish without losing stride or having to slow down makes it hard for defenders to tackle her. Her movement off the ball and ability to unsettle defenders and get them wrong-footed allows her to create or get into high percentage goalscoring positions all the while still helping her team build attacks and control the game through possession. Still uncommitted, Ivy will be on the watchlist of many coaches around the country as she goes into her junior season.
#5 Alex Fallon Alex Fallon null | M Westminster Schools (GA) | 2024 State #126 Nation GA , Westminster HS
Alex comes in as a dynamic attacking midfielder who operates high on the field coordinating attacks and keeping her team ticking as they get closer to goal. Alex’s game is somewhat unique for her position as she can often be seen the furthest up the field as she often makes runs from deep into the box. She has a great sense of timing and space which allows her to pick up second balls and create easy chances for herself. She works hard both on and off the ball and will constantly move into new spaces. With Westminster, she was able to get a solid 7 goals and 6 assists in 20 games along with a few players of the game awards to build off a positive season and help her team to a playoff run. Uncommitted as of now coaches should keep their radars as she develops in the next two seasons.
#6 Kate Jannetta Kate Jannetta M St. Pius X | 2024 State #129 Nation GA , Saint Pius Catholic School
Another young and capable midfielder Kate does all actions of a midfielder at a high level. She can defend and win the ball, she has great passing ability, she can beat players on the dribble, and has a quality shot from range. As she grows as a player and starts to get into a set position I think her best attributes are used further on the pitch as an attacking midfielder/10. Her technical ability combined with an understanding of space allows her to move off defenders and either create chances for herself or her teammates. With Saint Pius last season she put up consistent performances get both a few goals and assists and was part of a final four appearance against Midtown. She will be a key part of their team next season and helping them have another successful season along with taking a larger role herself.
#9 Reese Black Reese Black M Greater Atlanta Christian (GA) | 2024 State #59 Nation GA , Greater Atlanta Christian School
Finishing us off we have Reese who primarily operates higher up in the advanced midfield position. Watching Reese play it is clear to see her ability and supreme confidence in her ability and doesn’t shy away from the game. Reese is always looking for the ball and if her team doesn’t have it she is helping out and working hard to win it back for her team. Some of the best parts of her play comes in transition because once she has the ball she quickly moves into space or finds a pass forward. She constantly scans and plays with her head up which allows her to almost always make the right pass or choice. Defenders rarely get a break to rest as Reese has a great engine and seemingly never gets tired. Reese then combines these qualities with a great ability to finish or set up teammates or finish from a set piece. Any coach looking for a midfielder to build a team around should be watching Reese as she goes into her final two years.
