Cossio scored the match-winner for United over a tough Alexandria side early last month and was integral to their 3-1 win over SYC. A member of the side that won last year’s MLS Next Cup, he is a crafty midfielder that is comfortable taking on multiple defenders at a time. While his striking ability and darting runs have certainly helped his side, it is his passing that makes him such a deadly player. As evidenced by last year’s cup run, he can time his passes superbly to meet his teammates and more often than not help create a shot on target. He has been recently called up by Peru for their U-17 National Team and he has a real shot of being called up for when they host the World Cup next year.
Player Highlights rnQuist-Therson scored a key goal in Armour’s 2-1 win over SYC. The Class of 2023 midfielder out of Ellicott City, Maryland has a fantastic first touch and can make diagonal runs at defenders with relative ease. He has also shown a willingness to take a shot from distance, giving the already stacked Armour attack options against the region’s best. He has committed to playing college soccer next season at the University of Maryland-College Park.
Michel scored a hat trick two weeks ago to pull out the 5-2 victory over SYC and has caused nightmares for MLS Next defensive lines all season long. His ability to find space within tight backlines not only makes him a difficult attacker to break down, but allows for his teammates to be available in case there is a second chance opportunity. What will be interesting to see is how he develops as a leader with this young Armour side. If he can get them to gel, they may make a deep run for the Cup.
Argueta netted a brace in United’s 2-0 win over SYC earlier in the month and has been a steadying presence in the midfield all season long. He is comfortable playing on both ends of the pitch and is integral the club’s transition from a defensive posture to an attacking one. Alongside Cossio and Sydney Aggrey United have found a very dangerous trio that may help them repeat in the MLSNext Cup. Argueta has also represented the United States Youth National Team at the U16 level.
Helfrich is one of the top center midfielders in the Northeast and is one of the best passers in the DMV. The Bethesda system emphasizes possession and tidy, efficient passing and Helfrich is a perfect example of putting that style into practice. His ability to use both sides of the field and open up defenses makes him an leader on the attack. Helfrich has committed to playing college soccer at Georgetown University.
The Armour defense pulled off a massive 1-0 win over PDA thanks in part to the work between the posts by Carmody. The Mt. St. Joseph’s senior has emerged as a key leader for Armour this season, using his size to make key plays over the aformentioned PDA and the win over SYC. His patience when in possession of the ball and ability to spread the field have helped the side build chances out of the back. He has committed to playing college soccer next season at the United States Naval Academy.
