His shot accuracy and touch are top-level, and can score from all different areas of the field. Genoa-Kingston has a 16-3 record on the year.
M Mason Brockmeyer Mason Brockmeyer F St. Charles East | 2023 IL , St. Charles East, Sr
Brockmeyer is the top returner from an excellent St. Charles East team in 2021. His ability to control the game and make excellent decisions with the ball are some of his top strengths. In addition, Brockmeyer led the Saints to 9-1-1 mark in September, while compiling 10 goals and 5 assists. St. Charles East is a #2 seed in their 3A sectional. Only being York, who they tied last month.
M Jose Herrera, York, Sr
Herrera was a high-impact player for a York team that won the state championship last season. After a strong club campaign, he’s back and looking to repeat as a state champion. Herrera has 12 goals and 3 assists on the season. York is the top seed in their Sectional ahead of St. Charles East.
F Eduardo Nava, Elgin, Sr
Elgin has built up a program that will surely contend for a state championship this season. Senior F Eduardo Nava is their go-to player with 16 goals and 6 assists on the year. Elgin is currently 14-0-3 and have cruised to an Upstate Eight championship. They are also the top overall seed in their 3A sectional. Nava can play anywhere up top. He makes great runs and can break off defenders for easy scoring opportunities.
F Jonathan Magana, Bloom, Jr
There’s something special building at Bloom high school. Magana’s blazing speed and high technical abilities have been essential to his 25-goal, 7-assist performance so far. One of his most memorable moments last month was when he scored on a bicycle kick to give state powerhouse Lyons their first loss of the season in a 3-2 thriller.
F Danik Marynevich, Grayslake Central, Sr
Grayslake Central is poised to make another deep run in the 2A playoffs. Marynevich knows almost exactly where to go when someone plays a through ball. This gives himself lots of chances to score. He has a powerful strike and can score from all over the field. The Rams are currently 12-1-2. While Marynevich has 12 goals and 3 assists.
M Omar Ortiz, Bloom, So
The young sophomore standout already has 37 goals and 38 assists to his career. Ortiz has terrific touch in the midfield and can change directions with ease. Against Lyons, he took on at least four or five defenders at once and beat all of them to create a nice scoring opportunity. On the year, Ortiz has 21 goals and 26 assists, as Bloom just won the Southland Conference.
