St. Benedict’s, Bearden stay No. 1, but lots of FAB 50 shuffling
It’s status quo near the top of the boys and girls FAB 50s.
It gets a little tricky deeper in the rankings.
St. Benedict’s (N.J.) boys and Bearden (Tenn.) girls remain the No. 1 fall teams in the nation.
Calvert Hall (Md.) reinforced its No. 2 ranking with a late-match 4-2 win over St. Ignatius (Ohio). At this point in the season, a pair of Illinois frontrunners — defending state champ York and breakthrough program Elgin — move up into the Nos. 3 and 4 spots, respectively. St. Ignatius settles in at No. 5. It’s difficult to penalize two-loss St. Ignatius since both of their losses are to the current No. 1 and 2 teams in the nation.
The big movers this week were St. Anthony’s (N.Y.), which climbed to No. 11 following a win over former No. 3 Seton Hall Prep (N.J.), and Shipley School (Pa.), which checks in at No. 17.
Mars (Pa.) girls remain No. 2 followed by Portland Jesuit (Ore.), Westfield (N.J.) and Moon (Pa.). The big mover this week was undefeated Avon Grove (Pa.), which debuts at No. 11 after knocking off former undefeated Conestoga (Pa.) 2-0 last week.
