Hawley has verbally committed to playing college soccer in the fall of 2024 at the University of Maryland-College Park. The FCGB forward has excellent speed and is constantly running around the pitch, looking for any opening to exploit. Although she plays mostly at forward she has also spent some time in the midfield, which gives her the opportunity to to smash goals in from distance. She had a tremendous season for Wootton HS this fall and will be looking to replicate that effort this spring for Maryland United.
Highlights
McCloskey has verbally committed to playing college soccer in 2024 at Virginia Commonwealth University! The Brave are a new side in the ECNL, coming together as part of an agreement between Braddock Road Youth Club (BRYC) and Vienna Youth Soccer (VYS) starting this season. The merger has created a unique side and one of the major leaders is McCloskey, who also plays high school soccer at James Madison. The forward, working with mdifielder Eileen Harvey (more on her in a minute), has built a strong Brave spine, giving the new side some structure while the rest of the pieces come together. Her ability to move in between defenders and take quick, decisive shots has helped Fairfax remain competitive during Mid-Atlantic play.
Leah Mendoza
Leah Mendoza
Mendoza has verbally committed to playing college soccer next season at Allegheny College. She is very technically sound and has excellent timing in one-on-one situations with attackers. Playing goalkeeper at 5’6″ isn’t the easiest job in soccer, but she has a strong vertical leap and makes sound reads on crosses into the box and shots from distance. She is also a proven leader, helping a young DMV FC side through EDP play.
Eileen Harvey
Eileen Harvey
Harvey has verbally committed to playing college soccer next season at Franklin and Marshall University. The new side has taken the ECNL by storm with Harvey leading the charge. The speedy midfielder has played a major role in linking the defense with the attack, using her precision point passes to move the side into the account. Her sense of timing and solid defensive work with help FAMU in their efforts to finish atop the Centennial Conference.
Trysta Thomas
Trysta Thomas
Thomas has verbally committed to playing college soccer next season at the University of Maryland. The 5’11” goalkeeper is coming off of a superb season for her school side Arundel, helping the Wildcats make it to the 4A State Quarterfinals. She is a dominant force inside the box, willing to make a diving save at the right time and organize the defense on set pieces. The Pipeline goalkeeper has a booming right foot and can get long throws out to teammates looking to make the counter-attack.
Sophie Stroud
Sophie Stroud
Stroud has verbally committed to playing college soccer next season at James Madison University. The striker has been on fire for Richmond United this fall, pushing the side to an undefeated record in ECNL Mid-Atlantic play. She is ambidextrous and is comfortable making a first touch and striking the ball with either foot. While that would give defenders enough problems, that she can also make quick, decisive diagonal runs at defenders makes her nearly impossible to stop. JMU typically plays an up tempo counterattacking style which should fit Stroud’s skillset perfectly.
