Lauren Martinho Lauren Martinho M State #5 Nation NC , the standout midfielder from the U.S. U17 WYNT and NC Courage, verbally committed to Duke this week. She joins No. 1 overall prospect from the class Riley Jackson as the two top talents headed to Duke for the 2024 class.
The ACC powerhouse was not the only program to land some good news in the past. Check out some of the other noteworthy commitments from past week.
Denver landed an exciting talent in Megan Murray Megan Murray F Glenbrook South (IL) | 2024 IL . The FC United winger was a standout at the Girls Academy Playoffs last season. She is dynamic on the ball and offers elite pace for the next level. Murray’s potential is enticing as she has continued to improve with each season. At the next level, the Denver coaches can expect her to be an early contributor from a wide role. Her pace and skill is too much to keep on the bench for long.
Highlights
I wrote about Ervin last year as the most athletic forward in Michigan. I’ve seen no reason to change that opinion. She offers this goal-scoring ability that is rare from the youth game – and frankly rare from the college game as well. Michigan is picking up an in-state talent that has the potential to be a double digit per season goal scorer. Surrounding Ervin with elite playmakers will make Michigan’s attack one to watch for the future.
Perhaps the biggest news last month (October) was the reclassifying of midfielder Katie Scott Katie Scott F Fairview | 2024 #4 Nation OH . The former 2025 graduate is now part of the 2024 class and opened up her recruitment to college coaches as the beginning of October. By the end of the month, she had her heart set on Penn State – and she made her verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions. Scott is a top talent and will be a player in the top 30 of the updated 2024 rankings. She has played up age groups in the past, so it’s easy to see her making an impact early on. She is listed in the PrepSoccer State rankings for Ohio because she plays her club soccer for Internationals, but she is from Erie, PA so this is BIG in-state win for Penn State.
Cal Golden Bears tapped into Southern California for a 2024 commit. Jones is a defensive center midfielder from So Cal Blues. She is a dominant force on the field. She is tough in the tackle – and does well with using her strength to knock players off the ball. She is a weapon in the transition game as when she wins the ball she is quick to find teammates. Jones is a player with a lot of potential and could be a great fit at Cal.
