However, it doesn’t mean they aren’t capable as it is simply a matter of priorities. This list is rich with talent and heavy with players who could play at the next level if it was the top priority.
FORWARDS: Jose Argueta is the most versatile and dynamic player on this team. He can literally play as a forward, in the midfield, generally as a No. 10 or play in the back. He is a player who can score, who can distribute and can defend. He will slide back and forth between playing up top and as an attacking midfielder, but he will score goals. He was first-team all Bay Counties League. He is joined at this position by Kevin Rodriguez Kevin Rodriguez F Mission | 2023 CA of Mission High, a public school in San Francisco as Rodriguez is the top goal scorer in the San Francisco City Section, and was named the SFS Most Valuable Forward.
MIDFIELDERS: Wisdom Onuoma was the Most Valuable Midfielder in the SFS, who plays at Lowell and is a player who can score and assists, with double digits in both categories. Patrick Zamora is a strong midfielder and was a first-team West Catholic Athletic League selection a year ago, while Donovan Brasch and Luke Sullivan of Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep were second team and honorable mention, respectively, in the WCAL. Those three should be the strongest in a strong league.
DEFENDERS: Alastair Howarth was a first-team WCAL selection as a junior last year and should be the top defender in the league and lead that Sacred Heart Cathedral line. Rowan Goranson is a lockdown defender for University High. A second-team All-BCL a year ago, he has good pace, and is a vocal leader. Jose Adrian Najera of International High was the SFS Most Valuable Defender as a freshman last year, which speaks volumes. Johnny Locala was a first-team All-BCL defender a season ago and is a very versatile player.
KEEPER: Aidan Dugan Aidan Dugan GK Sacred Heart Cathedral | 2023 CA is the top returning senior in the WCAL and is the featured keeper in the city of San Francisco. A big, strong keeper who reacts quickly, makes smart decisions and understands angles. He hasn’t committed yet, but should be playing college soccer next year.
