Seniors have been around the program longer, have more experience and are, often times, committed to play in college. However, in Los Angeles the future is bright because five of the top 11 players are underclassmen.
Los Angeles is already an area with a lot of talent and teams who are generally in the conversation as some of the best in the country, and this year is no exception.
FORWARDS: Bishop Amat returns senior Isaac Ochoa who, as a junior, was the Del Rey League’s MVP. Keep in mind this is a league that has Cathedral Catholic and Salesian in it. He had 21 goals and nine assists last season. Joining him at forward is Angel Guerra Angel Guerra 5'9" | F Cathedral (CA) | 2023 CA , who recently committed to Cal Baptist. Guerra had seven goals and 13 assists last season as a wide player for the Phantoms.
MIDFIELDERS: Five players make up the midfield, with three seniors and two juniors. Allan Rosales is a central midfielder for Baldwin Park who can really control the game. Alex Bastidas from Cathedral is a central midfielder as well who is a tireless worker. He can also play on the left wing and had seven goals and nine assists last season. Charlie Munoz is the leader in the midfield for a very good Loyola team. The juniors are Aaron Espana of Cathedral and Hector Chavez of Sierra Vista. Espana is an attacking midfielder that makes great runs into the final third and can really push a back line, while Chavez is a central midfielder with great vision, awareness and passing ability.
DEFENDERS: A pair of Wilson-Long Beach players make the back line as Gavin Pool-Harris and Ian Bond are two of the best in the business. Pool-Harris, a senior, is a great leader and plays high end club for Pateadores. He hasn’t committed to a school yet, but is talking to a few. His teammate, Bond, is a junior and is a big defender. He is 6-3, the starting quarterback on the football team, and unlike a lot of QB’s, is not afraid of contact. Ethan Francis from Los Altos, a senior, is an excellent outside back for the Conquerors who can push up field, and is very good tracking back and defending 1v1.
KEEPER: Bishop Amat received quite the boon when Juan Martinez Juan Martinez GK CA showed up to practice on the first day. The former Galaxy Academy keeper is now back with the Lancers and will be a difference maker in the Del Rey League.
