Continue ReadingAs the 2023 season draws closer we look at the new batch of players in the rankings coming out of the class of 2025. It is filled with highly touted players who have impressed after their first high school seasons and club as well. Many of the players have quietly been making waves and as the old class moves out, a new one steps in, and these players here will be looking to make names for themselves.
Top of the rankings is Kai who has steadily been raising her stock and showing her quality which is why it’s no surprise she’s #1 in her class. An astute and multi-faceted defender, Kai is everything you’d want In a defender as she is athletic, good on the ball, and intelligent as well. Her ability to read the game and use her speed and size to hunt down attackers or put herself in the right position to get to intercept the ball and easily play the ball forward and keep her team ticking. A leader and strong presence on the field, GAC will be looking to keep building their defense around her in the upcoming season and make another deep playoff run.
Neely is everything you’d want in a modern-day midfielder/defender. Typically playing as a center mid or defensive mid she can fill in any role and does a little bit of everything. She’s blessed with supreme technical ability along with size and power that she uses to cover all areas of the game. She can move the ball with both feet, put in tackle or interception, and even score with late runs into the box. Her ability to screen the defense in midfield and then pick up the ball and even go on the dribble or find a teammate in space allows her to control the temp of games and is the glue of her teams. She will be an important piece in the midfield for Buford in the coming season.
Our first forward on this list Sophia is a confident goalscorer who can easily take the game into her own hands if needed. She is a lethal finisher in front of the net, and the ability to beat players on the dribble and get herself into goalscoring positions makes her that much harder to defend as she doesn’t always have to rely on service from teammates. She is extremely balanced even with defenders near her and easily glides past defenders while always having control of the ball which means she’s always playing at her own pace. She also has a great eye for a pass and will always work hard to win the ball back. Buford is building a formidable team and Sophia will be a key piece for the next few years.
Highlights
It’s not often you get a GK this high in the rankings but Bella has blown out the blocks as one of the top prospects in her position and any coach should be watching her. An excellent shot-stopper Bell has the most important job of her position done at a high level where she makes clean saves and will always make an effort to dive and come out of her box. What makes her so unique is her ability to play with her feet as her team will often play her back and she can easily pick teammates out with balls on the ground or air. She always provides her team with an outlet and consistently communicates and directs from the back. Apart from the Moutain View team which had a solid playoff run in 2022, will be a key part of their success in the upcoming season.
Sarah comes in as another forward on the list and local schools and coaches should be watching out for her in this coming season. A very dynamic player, Sarah is often either playing on the last defender or dropping deep to link play and even create herself. Her eye for goal from distance is equally matched by her ability to find teammates in space. Able to play with both feet she often wrong foots defenders as they donate know where she’s going to go or when she will shoot or pass. Finally as all forwards should be able to do she can get into the box and finish off chances from her midfielder’s and wingers. Last season she put up 20 points at Harrison with a nice spread of goals and assists and will be having a important role this season.
