Bland had a fantastic between the posts this fall for Broadneck, helping the side reach the Maryland State 4A Championship game. The Maryland United FC junior showed excellent organization throughout the season and worked seamlessly with a veteran defense. Her timing, particularly on long balls into the box, was always on point making difficult tackles on attackers. Bland was named to the Baltimore Sun’s All-Metro First Team and was named to the Washington Post’s All-Met honorable mention.
Marcello was an All-State Honorable Mention this fall for Harford Tech High School. The Pipeline junior goalkeeper capped a phenomenal season with two major shutouts in the 2A Regionals, including upsetting number one ranked Rising Sun. Marcello is very athletic and works well with her center-backs to help set up possession. She also seems comfortable with the ball at her feet, a skill that goalkeepers at the high school typically are still learning.

Cheeseboro had a solid junior season behind a veteran-heavy Good Counsel backline, earning eight clean sheets. She is a very athletic goalkeeper and has an excellent wingspan, allowing her to bring down high shots. She also possesses excellent intuition and fantastic communication skills, allowing her to work seamlessly with her defenders on building chances from the back. With Bethesda this spring she will be facing some excellent competition, which should help her development and in turn prepare her for Good Counsel in the fall.
Katie Wood
Katie Wood
Wood was a save machine for Atholton last fall, making 144 saves for the side to lead all goalkeepers in Howard County. She has excellent vision and timing, allowing her to make pinpoint saves for her high school side. She was tasked with leading a very young defensive unit this season that grew and developed as the season went on a process that led the team to the Maryland 3A Regionals. The experience will undoubtedly help Wood heading into her senior season where expectations will be higher for the side.
Genesis Maldonado
Genesis Maldonado
Serving as the back-up last season for the Lancers last season, Maldonado thrived earning four shutouts in eight matches. Her excellent footwork and angles made life difficult for forwards last season and she worked seamlessly in some difficult situations with the Linganore defense. She is the presumptive starter next season for a Linganore side that will be contending for the 4A State Title.
Bella Buscher
Bella Buscher
Buscher was one of the top shot stoppers in Maryland last fall, making 104 saves and eight shutouts for Glenelg. The Armour goalkeeper showed excellent decision-making especially during the Maryland 2A State Finals. Her back-to-back shutouts against Walkersville and Oakland Mills were critical in getting the side into the 2A Championship. What will be interesting to see is how she develops with additional time at Armour in the Girls Academy and with more time developing chemistry with her backline.
