Continue ReadingHeritage High School Men’s Varsity Soccer had an extremely successful 2022 fall season with a 16-6-2 record, earning them the title of Northern Athletic 4a Conference Champions and a spot in the third round of the NC 4a State Championships. The team’s success was not only due to the efforts of the coaching staff but also the contributions of the players on the pitch. Among the standout players on the team is a young core of Ryan Palmateer, Cole Wilson, Evan Harper Evan Harper F NC , Carter Schiff and Emmett Broda. These five players have been key contributors to the team’s success and have shown great potential for the future. These athletes are all members of the Class of 2024 or 2025, giving Heritage a healthy spine which will help them move forward confidently. This core possesses excellent skill, a strong work ethic and a great attitude, certainly making them valuable assets to the program. We are exited to see how the compete this spring in club and the growth steps they can take in their 2023 high school seasons.
Ryan Palmateer
Ryan Palmateer
Ryan Palmateer, a member of the class of 2025, is an outside midfielder and center midfielder who has made a significant impact on the pitch. He has been a varsity starter for two years and was a key player in Heritage High School’s Northern Athletic 4a Conference championship win in 2022. He was named to the All-Region First Team, All-Conference First Team, and received the Academic All-Conference Award. Ryan also plays the 06 NCFC ECNL NL and 06 NCFC Premier RL. Ryan is a rapid player. He possesses excellent acceleration and the technique to bring the ball with him. He is composed in front of goal and finds himself in the right place at the right time often. Ryan scored 8 goals and assisted 3 times in 2022 for Heritage High School.
Cole Wilson
Cole Wilson
Cole Wilson, a member of the class of 2025, is an outside midfielder and outside back who was named Rookie of the Year at Heritage High School. He led the team in assists and started every game in 2022. He plays for NCFC Premier RL and has moved up every single year since joining classic soccer in spring of 2018, starting on the bottom team and now training with the ECNL NL squad often. Cole’s vision and versatility are what set him apart from other players in the area. Although we have listed him here as an outside midfielder and back, he can play in the central positions on the field, as well. Through the middle, he certainly holds his own because he sees the game quickly and has the technical ability to make those decisions a reality. Cole scored 1 goal in 2022 but assisted 6 times for his Heritage Huskies. We expect to see his goal number rise as he looks to play higher up the pitch in 2023.
Evan Harper Evan Harper F NC
Evan Harper Evan Harper F NC
Harper, a member of the class of 2025, is a center midfielder with a special ability in the defensive half of the pitch. He was named to the All NAC VI Conference Team, All Region 6 Team and All Academic Team in 2022. Evan also plays for the 07 NCFC ECNL NL team. Evan is an absolute game breaker in the middle of the pitch. He is constantly reading the next pass or the next cut. This gives his squad confidence in the middle of the field knowing he will make life difficult for the opponent’s attackers. He is strong in the tackle and a unit in the air. All around, he is a complete center defensive midfielder. Despite his defensive focus, Evan still scored 4 goals and assisted 3 times in 2022. These numbers are just a small part of what Evan can bring to a squad!
Carter Schiff
Carter Schiff
Schiff, a member of the class of 2024, played center defensive midfielder for the Huskies this fall, although he plays a variety of different positions for his club team. This high school season he was named to the NAC VI All Conference team and will be playing for NCFC Premier RL in the spring. Schiff is a total athlete. This gives him the capability of playing multiple positions at a very high level. He proves his worth through strong tackling and a willingness to work harder than his opponents. Whether it’s tracking back on the full sprint or out leaping attackers, we’ve been truly impressed by Schiff as an all around soccer athlete. Schiff was sidelined a bit this fall because of injury, however he contributed 2 goals for his Huskies. Again, his focus for this team was defensive but we certainly hope to see him in different roles this spring and next fall, allowing him the opportunity to be a big contributor on the stat line!
Emmett Broda
Emmett Broda
Broda, a member of the class of 2024, played a variety of positions through midfield for the Huskies this fall. He is also a member of NCFC 04 Gold North which will continue competing this spring. Broda showed excellent pace and a very direct style this fall. He has a knack for scoring important goals which simply cannot be taught. With the athleticism necessary to play in the wide areas of the pitch along with the vision to play through the center, Broda is a well rounded midfielder that can contribute to any team at a high level. Broda bagged 8 goals this season for Heritage which left him ranked second in goal scoring. We want to see him continue to progress as a player by incorporating his teammates into his game and increasing his assists total during his senior campaign.
