The no. 2 Menchville Monarchs started the season off by claiming the championship at the 1st Keepers Cup Memorial tournament in Williamsburg. Facing stiff competition from the Bay Rivers and Peninsula districts, the Monarchs finished 2-0-1 with wins over Grafton, no. 13 Lafayette, and draw versus no. 6 Tabb.
No. 9 Warwick was the surprise team of the tournament finishing second after beating no. 13 Lafayette on a banger by Abdul Mokhtar and also winning a 5-4 thriller over Grafton led by JaMarhe Wills and Joshua Barnett who each netted two goals. Warwick keeper Ethan Chenoweth was named the Spirit Award winner for his play.
New no. 1 Cox held serve with wins over no. 14 Grassfield and no. 18 Warhill. Robbie Reynolds scored twice against Grassfield and Josh Haggerty scored the 68th min game winner in their 1-0 win versus Warhill
No. 2 Menchville moved up four spots and is a dangerous team in the attack and had goal contributions from Christian Robertson (2), Zack Silcox, Damien Jackson (2), Wyatt Maddox, Ryan Kiser, and Zach Robinson in their three games.
Great Bridge defeated two Beach district schools in Kempsville and no. 17 Princess Anne and moved up a spot to no. 3 in the rankings. Jack Ottley and Cameron Todd (game winner) scored versus Princess Anne while Ottley, Cohen Forehand, Carson Danner, and Anthony Panyiotou all found the net in the Kempsville match.
No. 4 Kellam only played one game but came away victorious against no. 16 Jamestown on a Hamilton Howes hat trick.
Kecoughtan drops two spots to no. 5 after posting draws versus no. 13 Lafayette and Grafton and a win over no. 6 Tabb. Tre Barrett, Angel Moreles, and Jackson Bickleman all turned in solid performances.
Defending state champions Tabb drops from the no. 1 spot down to no. 6 after posting a 1-1-1 record in the first week. Ty Hefner (2), Jocob Kimball, Austin Robertson, and Michael Hackworth all found the back of the net for the Tigers.
No. 7 Hickory beat Bayside on a Michael Orlando goal and an overtime PK smashed home by Evan Rinkus. The Hawks followed that game with a win over York 4-2. Center back Kade Childers earned Man of the Match honors for his performance in the Bayside match.
Keeper Trey Gohr posted two clean sheets for no. 8 Landstown in wins over Oscar Smith and no. 14 Grassfield. Kamar Wilson scored the game winning PK in the second half versus Grassfield and also netted two goals and an assist in the Oscar Smith match.
No. 10 First Colonial traveled to Williamsburg to take on no. 18 Warhill and came away with a 3-1 victory on goals by Ethan Konikoff, Jair Farmer, and Diego Armas.
Ocean Lakes jumps six spots to No. 11 after pulling off a minor road upset when they traveled to no. 12 Smithfield and came away with a 3-2 win on Caleb Tomerlin, Canon Robins, and Dylan Tamayo goals.
Smithfield drops a spot to no. 12 after beating Churchland handily before falling to no. 11 Ocean Lakes.
No. 13 Lafayette drops six spots after dropping tournament matches to no. 9 Warwick and no. 2 Menchville and drawing against no. 5 Kecoughtan. Jack Troy and James Spencer found the net in their 2-2 draw.
Grassfield had a disappointing week falling to no. 1 Cox and no. 8 Landstown. The Grizzlies still check in at no. 14 in the rankings.
No. 15 Granby moves up three places after wins over Poquoson and Salem in the first week. Davis Mann (2 goals) and Diddier Martinez (3 goals) are both off to hot starts.
Jamestown faced tough competition in losses to no. 4 Kellam and defending class 4 state champion Western Albamarle which should set them up for their upcoming Bay Rivers matches. The Eagles did beat Westmorland and drop to no. 16.
No. 17 Princess Anne started with a win over Western Branch before dropping a 2-1 decision to no. 3 Great Bridge. Michael Korba recorded a brace against Western Branch.
Warhill dropped their first two matches, first to no. 10 First Colonial in overtime and then a 1-0 heartbreaker to no. 1 Cox.
Kings Fork jumps into the rankings at no. 19 after wins over Denbigh, Booker T. Washington, and Heritage.
No. 20 Deep Creek also joins the rankings after winning two physical one goal matches against Norview and Churchland. Bowen Dellinger scored in both games for the Hornets.
