The 2023 season kicked off this week highlighted by the Keepers Cup Memorial tournament in Williamsburg. Previously unranked no. 17 Tabb and no. 5 Lafayette both finished the event with identical 2-0-1 records after they drew 1-1. Tabb won the tournament on tiebreakers and Hannah Clark was named tournament MVP. Lafayette’s Riley Bennet recorded a hat trick in their 4-0 win over Warhill.
No. 1 Kellam started off hot with a 4-0 clean sheet over no. 15 Jamestown with goals by Kristyn Bernal, Alyssa Chuderewicz Alyssa Chuderewicz M Kellam | 2024 VA and a brace by Dylan McEntarfer. The Knights followed that up with another win over a ranked squad, no. 7 Norfolk Academy led by Jashyra Johnson, Ava Chuderewicz Ava Chuderewicz M Kellam (VA) | 2024 VA and Taylor Garofalo who all scored.
No. 2 First Colonial was unstoppable in their opening match, a 7-1 defeat of Ocean Lakes led by Sydney Miller Sydney Miller null | F State VA who had a four goal performance.
Smithfield moves up a spot to no. 3 after a dominating win over Churchland and a close 3-2 win over no. 11 Princess Anne. Katie Lutz Katie Lutz null | M Smithfield (VA) | 2023 VA opened her account with a four goal performance on Tuesday and Emma Forbes Emma Forbes D Smithfield | 2023 VA scored a brace on Friday.
No. 4 Cox drops a spot after a hard fought 1-1 draw versus #6 Grassfield. Ava Rassool Ava Rassool M VA scored the lone goal for the Falcons. Cox then knocked off First Flight (NC) 3-0 which saw Makiah Correa score twice and Rassool had another goal plus an assist.
Grassfield posted two good results, a 1-1 draw with no. 4 Cox and then beat no. 18 Landstown 1-0 on a Ava Roberts header. The Grizzlies move up a spot to no. 6
No. 7 Norfolk Academy dominated Walsingham Academy led by Bella Burr’s brace and then fell to No. 1 Kellam 3-1.
Audrey Orrock Audrey Orrock F Great Bridge | 2025 State VA started where she left off knocking home three goals in no. 8 Great Bridge’s lone game, a 5-1 win over Currituck County (NC). Hanna Zayicek added two helpers.
No. 9 York’s keeper Ashley Hunt Ashley Hunt GK York (VA) | 2023 VA posted two shutouts vs Hopewell and no. 10 Hickory (a scoreless draw).
Hickory moves up a spot to no. 10 with a win over Bayside where Katrina Cardiff scored four goals and earned player of the game honors. Also earned a tough nil-nil draw versus no. 9 York.
No. 11 Princess Anne finished the week 1-1-0 after a quality win over Western Branch with goals by Amy Woodworth, Nina Murthy Nina Murthy F Princess Anne | 2025 VA , and Caroline White.
Maury stays at no. 12 after playing only one match, a 3-2 win over Kempsville, Alana Cunningham had the game winning goal.
No. 13 Gloucester started the year with a shutout over Hampton.
No. 14 Norfolk Collegiate won over Portsmouth Christian with a two goal/two assist performance by Mary Bradley.
Jamestown moves up to no. 15 despite a loss to no. 1 Kellam. The Eagles then rebounded to win handily over Westmorland.
No. 16 Western Branch opened with a loss against no. 11 Princess Anne and then posted a quality win over Ocean Lakes on goals by Berkley Miller and Caleigh Burris.
Peyton Curney scored five goals in no. 18 Landstown’s win over Oscar Smith.
Joelle Hare paced no. 19 Nansemond River with three goals in their win over New Kent.
Salem checks in the rankings at no. 20 after posting three clean sheet wins. Harmony Crawford scored two hat tricks and Arianna Fong also added four goals against Norview.
Sitting just outside the top 20 are Cape Henry (1-0-0), Northampton (1-0-0), Warhill (2-1-0), Lakeland (2-0-0), Deep Creek (2-0-0), and Kings Fork (3-0-0).
