Seven Lakes Spartans
The Seven Lakes Spartans from Katy are one of the top teams in the UIL Division 6A – Region 3, District 19. The team has been a force in the region, having lifted eight district championships and made 16 playoff appearances since 2007. Their last trip to thee State Tournament was back in 2012 and the Spartans are looking to return to the big stage this season.
Players to Watch
‘Maddie’ Rich is a stud between the posts for the Spartans – the team conceded only two goals in 15 distict matches so far. A goalkeeper with excellent range thanks to her 5’10” frame, she’s also extremely agile and makes big saves for the team. A Lamar University commit, Rich thrives for her positioning, which often allows her to get on the ball with no more than a few steps, and is also really solid when she needs to get off her line and make stops. Because of her size, the goalkeeper is also very efficient when dealing with crosses inside the penalty box. Rich is also good with her feet and even scored on a free kick earlier this season.

A defender with good size and physical tools, Lennon plays a big role in Seven Lakes’ strong defensive system. She’s really good at using her strength to win duels inside the penalty box, but is a versatile and capable defender, who also does well when tracking attackers in deeper positions. A Universiyt of Richmond commit, Lennon also has good pace and is excellent at covering her teammates. Also capable of playing as a defensive midfielder, she’s very calm on the ball when in possession and connects good passes from the back.

A versatile player, Townsend brings a lot of energy to the Spartans with her play. She’s mostly used as a right back with Seven Lakes, but can also play further up in the field. Townsend is very quick with her movement and can run the field up and down for as long as needed. A Colorado School of Mines commit, she’s very solid on defense, especially in 1v1 duels, and also has power and quality on the ball to make an impact on offense when she pushes forward.

A very technical and intelligent player, Romero is a key cog in the Spartans’ offensive buildup. She plays in a little bit of a deeper position in the midfield and is really good at connecting passes and keeping the ball moving. Romero is excellent at making long passes to the opposite side of the field, relieving her team from pressure and generating acres of space for them to explore. A McNeese State commit, the midfielder plays hard on the defensive side of the game, making numerous tackles, and is also strong in air, winning most aerial duels she’s involved with.

Towsen is another midfielder who makes a huge impact on both sides of the game with her play. Very dynamic on and off the ball, she adds a lot of intensity to the Spartans’ game at the center of the field. Towsen is very good at creating space with her turns and sees the game well, often finding teammates in good spots on the flanks. She’s also an excellent passer, who not only has good precision with her touches, but also times them really well, giving her targets the time to run behind the backline. Towsen is also very disciplined on defense, tacking back and working hard to get the ball.

Erck lines up as Seven Lakes’ striker, but she has the freedom and the quality to move all over the final third. She likes to look for the sidelines to get on the ball and uses her pace and dribbling ability to beat opponents and push the ball forward. Erck always looks for open spaces to get on the ball and is smart when combining with her teammates too. She finishes well with both feet and is solid at separating herself from defenders and creating space for her to shoot. The forward is also very accurate when taking corner kicks.
