On Tuesday, we made it to the Division 6A – Region 3, District 19 match between the Katy Jordan Warriors and the Cinco Ranch Cougars in the Fulshear area.
Katy Jordan 2 – 0 Cinco Ranch Cougars
Playing at home, the Katy Jordan Warriors started the match on the front foot and needed just a little over two minutes to find the back of the net for the first time. Senior midfielder Juancarlos Santos Juancarlos Santos M TX received the ball in the final third, dribbled a Cinco Ranch defender and fired a low shot out of the range of goalkeeper Zacharias Padelopoulos.
Jordan’s second goal was also scored before the halftime break and it was built in a similar fashion. Sophomore midfielder Marcelo Ojeda created some space after getting on the ball and beat Padelopoulos with another low shot from outside the penalty box.
The Cougars were more in control during the second half, having more of the ball and creating some chances, especially when forwards Daniel Vargas and Andres Riera combined up top. Junior midfielder Miguel Leite drove the ball past Jordan’s goalkeeper Elijah Betancourt but saw defender Noah Rogerson stop his shot over the goal line.
With the victory, the Warriors have a 7-5 record in district play (11-7-1 for the season) and remain in fourth place in the standings. Cinco Ranch are third in the district with seven wins, two losses and four ties – their record for the season is 9-4-4.

Jordan’s top goalscorer in the season came up big again for his team, scoring an early goal that placed the Warriors in a more comfortable position to control the match. He was very active on both sides of the ball, stopping several of Cinco Ranch’s attempts and helping the team create. Santos played in front of his team’s backline and controlled possession from his deep-lying position, but also had an important offensive presence, getting around the penalty box to finish and make passes.
Marcelo Ojeda
Marcelo Ojeda
The most advanced player from Jordan’s midfield trio, Ojeda was very dynamic and clean on the ball, playing a big role in most of the team’s goalscoring opportunities. Very quick and smart on the ball, he was very direct in the final third, dribbling the ball towards the goal or finding the attackers. Ojeda scored a beautiful goal with a shot from outside the penalty box and also played an important role on defense, tracking back and closing the space in the middle. His ball control was also very important for Jordan to run the clock down in the final minutes.
Ryan Armijo Ryan Armijo M TX

Armijo circulated really well in the central region of the field, getting on the ball a lot and making good plays. His mind is very quick and that allows him to play fast and find very good passes from his midfield position. Armijo used both feet well, had some good long-distance shots and used his size well to win some aerial battles in the middle. He left the match injured in the second half and saw the Warriors struggle to maintain possession in his absence.

Elgstrom played an important role in the center of Cinco Ranch’s backline. He won a lot of plays in the back and couldn’t have done much to avoid either goal as they were scored from outside the penalty box. The towering center back was also solid in possession, moving upfield to play as more of a defensive midfielder and help the Cougars’ buildup. Elgstrom hit some nice long passes and also tried to help his team score with set pieces, be it using his size in the air or taking free kicks himself.
Andres Riera
Andres Riera
Riera was Cinco Ranch’s most consistent offensive player, creating good chances from the left during the entire match. He used his pace and dribbling ability to beat defenders while driving the ball and also made good combination plays. He had even more success on the second half, when he combined with striker Daniel Vargas and had some good opportunities. Riera created not only to himself, but also took the ball to the end line to make crosses and was also very good when taking corner kicks.
