We already knew it wouldn’t be easy for the Mustangs. But a 4-1 loss in the sectional final to Plainfield North surely surprised some. The weekend had a great start to it with Tyra King Tyra King F IL scoring four goals to knock off Lockport. But Plainfield North was too much to handle in the sectional championship. DePaul Commit Tessa Fagerson Tessa Fagerson F IL opened the contest with a set-piece goal. She added two more in the first half from a pair of spectacular shots from 25 yards out. A second half goal my Mia Davis gives Plainfield North their first ever sectional title.
Instant Classic in St. Charles
For the second year in a row, it was St. Charles East and St. Charles North in the sectional semifinal. While it was East winning last years sectional championship, North won their first two matchups this season. So the excitement was truly there. East’s Grace Williams scored her 29th goal of the season just eight minutes into the match. It would be the games only goal for 79 1/2 minutes. With less than ten seconds left, North’s Laney Stark found the back of the net to force OT. After East regained the lead in the opening overtime, North responded, yet again, in the final seconds of the first overtime. North prevailed in the shootout 3-1 for the Sectional Crown.
Normal University Wins 1A State Title
Charlise Carr was the hero in overtime. Burying the games lone goal in the state championship off an assist from Aubrey Balota Aubrey Balota 5'6" | M Normal University | 2026 State IL . Even with their starting keeper injured, they only allowed one goal all postseason. Normal defeated Pleasant Plains in the state semifinal before knocking off Alleman in the championship game.
O’Fallon, Triad Rule Southern Illinois (Yet Again)
After losing in last years 3A sectionals, the 2021 3A champions are back in the super sectionals after shutting out Edwardsville and Minooka. Sophomores Allie Tredway Allie Tredway F OFallon Township | 2025 State MO and Finley Scott Finley Scott M O Fallon Township | 2025 State MO led the way against Edwardsville in a 3-0 victory, with each scoring a goal. In the sectional championship, they routed Minooka 6-0, with Kiley McMinn Kiley McMinn null | M O'Fallon (Ill.) | 2023 MO scoring a pair of goals.
In their 2A sectional, Triad reigned supreme yet again. But it didn’t come easy this time. Waterloo gave Triad a real battle in the sectional championship before the Lady Knights won in a penalty shootout.
