Scouts from all over the nation were there (reportedly 450+) to take in the action. This is the Part I of the players that stood out to me…
C/O 2024 Jackson Carlyon Jackson Carlyon M VA is a player that has impressed on every occasion when watching his 2006 Richmond United squad. A strong center back/right back who is very composed when defending. Has the size to defend set pieces and also has to pace to keep up with opposing attackers. Carlyon really excels and sets himself apart when he is on the ball. Very smart at making the first pass to begin the attack for his side, and capable of picking out teammates in the midfield, or over the top in the attacking third.
Nicholas Simmonds
Nicholas Simmonds
Nicholas Simmonds is an attacking player with great size for the 2006 Richmond United squad. Always willing to take a chance to get his team in to the final third and create a good goal scoring opportunity. Simmonds strength allows him to play with his back to goal and hold up play when needed. He is also very good at starting clever 1-2 passes. When allowed to turn, he is a dangerous finisher. Nicholas also scored a game-tying free kick at the end of the first half of their first game in GSO, a real momentum shift in a game RU ended up winning 5-2.
Sam Sharrab
Sam Sharrab
Sam Sharrab was arguably the best player on the field for the first half of Rise 06 vs Richmond United. An attacking midfielder with a great work rate. Sharrab frequently won possession in the middle of the park. He showed great awareness with his first touches into space, leaving defenders behind him. He also showed a lot of creativity with one-touch passes, dummies that open up space for teammates, and longer passes from all angles. It seemed that everything positive moving forward for Rise went through Sharrab’s feet.
Julian Valencia
Julian Valencia
Julian Valencia opened up the scoring for Rise against Richmond. Valencia received a ball and took a wonderful first touch to create the space to shoot and score. The class of 2025 winger/striker is a dangerous player moving forward, with good pace and instincts on the ball.
Misa Martinez
Misa Martinez
A quick, shifty winger, Misa Martinez keeps defenders on their heels. Misa takes advantage of his low center of gravity to cut corners on defenders and get his shoulders past them, creating dangerous chances and drawing tons of fouls. He is also effective pressing the back line of the opposing team, using his quickness to make defenders uncomfortable when they are on the ball, leading to possession for his 2006 Richmond team.
