In the Western Region, the state of California gets a lot of attention and love from fans, scouts, coaches and the media. But other states out west, in this particular case Arizona and Washington, feature some top players. Here are a pair from the Western Region worth knowing and keeping an eye on.

[player_tooltip player_id='61940' first='Kaylee' last='Muniz'], Forward, Boulder Creek, Class of 2025

The recruiting window opens today for players in the 2025 class and Muniz is going to be someone garnering a lot of attention. She is the top-ranked forward in Arizona, and the No. 4 overall recruit for the class of 2025 in the state. She was first team All-Conference in Arizona's largest division, 6A. She was second in the conference in goals and assists, only behind her teammate Hope Leyba who is going off to play Division I at Colorado. She plays at Boulder Creek High, and plays club for the Utah Royals FC, playing ECNL for the AZ 2007 team. She is incredibly athletic, moving with ease and grace around the pitch. Muniz is very gifted from a creative standpoint, technical and she is clever. Athleticism runs in her family as both her parents played college basketball and her sister is going to the University of Idaho to play basketball. When watching Muniz, her strength really stands out. She is growing and going to get stronger, but even at the size she's at now she's hard to get off the ball, and she is not afraid to be physical to get past defenders. Muniz is a team-first player, who is very unselfish and likes to compete and do what it takes to win. She is dangerous on the ball and has a motor that does not quit.

Photo: Ana Lisa Ryan

[player_tooltip player_id='99325' first='Alex' last='Tay'], Central Defender, Lakeside School, Class of 2025

Tay is a player who can do it all. She is a leader as a central defender, which every coach wants to see. She is cool, calm and composed. Tay competes like you want the leader of your defense to do, and she is very strong in the air. She's also very fast as her speed stands out whether she's tracking back or deciding to push forward and she makes life hard on the opposition with her vision, her playmaking ability and her clever footwork. In addition, she is a team leader and she really enjoys competing. Tay attends Lakeside School in Seattle and plays club for Seattle United's 2007 ECNL team.
