This year 32 teams competed in games held in mid-September.
Here’s a look at some of the players that stood out in the games I was able to catch.
Tomáš Ludvík
Tomáš Ludvík
The forward from the Czech Republic was practically unmarkable in Pennington’s game against Gil St. Bernard’s. He had a brace and assisted on a third but it was movement and his presence that most impressed me.
Kendall Bufore
Kendall Bufore
It’s not often you are entertained by a scoreless draw but Bufore was a fun player to watch in a very competitive game against Northwood School’s U19 team. Shifty with the ball at his feet and creative, Bufore is one to watch.
Gabe Raphael
Gabe Raphael
Raphael was directing traffic in the midfield and doing a fine job both impacting the game on both sides of the ball in Berkshire’s game against Kiski School.
Georgios Kazantzioglou
Georgios Kazantzioglou
Kazantzioglou took a ton of shots for Phelps in their game against Western Reserve and while not all of them were advisable, the Greek midfielder showed his ability to be involved in the play up and down the field. It wasn’t always highlight reel worthy but impossible not to notice. He finally did his goal late and it proved to be a winner.
Caydence Robinson
Caydence Robinson
Robinson was under a ton of pressure against Phelps School and was able to pull off some impressive stops and command his box well.
Joel Ouondé
Joel Ouondé
Smooth, strong and athletic, Ouondé was able to create a lot of dangerous attacking moments and mismatches in Spire’s game against Putnam Science Academy.
Jordan Shullenberger
Jordan Shullenberger
Shullenberger was very active with and without the ball camped in the middle of the park and was hard to miss in an entertaining scoreless draw with Landon School.
Jace Donawa
Jace Donawa
A winger with pace and strength on the ball, Donawa was an absolute handfull for Haverford School in their 4-3 loss to Northwood’s U17 team.
Finn French
Finn French
One of the most impressive freshman I’ve seen this year in local high school soccer, French showed more on the defensive side than I’d seen previously. Really impressive young player.
Cho Choelhui
Cho Choelhui
Woodstock was an impressive team through and through so there are a number of players to choose from to highlight but I wanted to highlight Choelhui as one of the younger players who stood out in their game against Westtown School.
Gabrielius Mazonas
Gabrielius Mazonas
It’s always a bit tricky trying to watch multiple games at once because you miss plenty but every time I looked over at Georgetown’s game against Springside Chestnut Hill Mazonas was making something happen.
Abdoul Diallo
Abdoul Diallo
Diallo has a strong presence in the middle of the back line for Chestnut Hill and is worthy of the captain’s armband in the way he organizes his teammates and communicates from the back.
