Last week, we took a look at the top talent from the class.
Below is a scouting report on some of the top talent in the rankings from the state in this class, which includes Sporting KC and St. Louis City MLS Academy.
Center back for SLSG U15 MLS Next. Starting defender for the team last season in MLS Next. He’s a very good defender. Tough in the tackle and active in the game. He is always switched on. Barrett shined for his 1v1 defending. He had a game last season when he took the ball off of three attackers in quick succession with hustle play. He does have a bit of overeagerness to his game and will overrun the play at times and get caught out. With more games under his belt, he will adapt to that. The times he was out of position were more glaring too because of the three-back system for SLSG. McLaughlin’s competitiveness and defensive work-rate are the key and make him a top prospect for this class.
Hennessy is a center forward for St. Louis City SC MLS Next. He previously played for St. Louis Scott Gallagher 09 MLS Next. He is right footed with a strong frame. He has good close control of the ball and uses his strength well in the hold-up play. Hennessy is going to a club that has a history for developing center forwards.
Scott impressed scouts last season with his play in goal for Lou Fusz MLS Next U14. He did well on crosses in catching the ball at the highest point. He was excellent at navigating through traffic in the box. He also showed off a strong arm with his distribution. Scott has high upside for the position.
Liem is a forward on Sporting Kansas City MLS Academy. He previously played for Sporting Blue Valley. He is an early 09 birthday and stands out at this point for his size and strength against peers. He can play on the wing or as a center forward. He has good back-to-the goal play, but he can also turn and face defenders and run down hill in a hurry. Liem is a handful for defenders and did well against older competition in the past.
Hines is a new addition to the Sporting Kansas City academy. He previously played for PA Classics in MLS Next and I believe that is where he was scouted by the MLS Academy. Hines is an attacking midfielder who I have also seen play as a No. 9. He is a tall player for his age group and a physically dominant player in the midfield. He had some outstanding performances last season with PA Classics where he really took over the game for his side. With his long stride, he glided past defenders. His skill on the ball shined in 1v1 situations. Hines has a lot of potential so it’s easy to see why the MLS academy recruited him to join the club.
