On Saturday, November 4, I went to The Woodlands, Texas, to watch the teams ranked third and first in the U17 Age Group in the Frontier Conference, Texas’ HTX G07 GA and Missouri’s Lou Fusz G07 GA – take a look at the match’s photo gallery.
HTX G07 GA 1 – 5 Lou Fusz G07 GA
Despite playing on the road, Lou Fusz controlled the match since the start and scored the first goal in a set piece, with Addison Baldus Addison Baldus null | D O'Fallon | 2025 State #307 Nation MO sending a long ball into the penalty box and finding Aly Bryant Aly Bryant null | M Timberland | 2025 State #243 Nation MO , who scored with a header. A few minutes later, Alyssa Schulte won the ball back in the offensive field and passed it to Grace White Grace White F State MO , who scored. Madison Taylor Madison Taylor F Saint Agnes Academy | 2026 TX got one back for HTX, but a sliding finish of Charlie Wistrom Charlie Wistrom F State MO restored Lou Fusz’s two-goal advantage before the halftime break.
The level dropped a little bit in the second half, but Lou Fusz remained in control. White scored her second in the match, making a good run through the middle and finishing with power and precision with her left foot. Near the end, the team from Missouri regained possession in the offensive field again and Bryant assisted Gabbie Williams, who scored with a low shot, setting the final score.
Top Performers
Baldus was a rock defensively for Lou Fusz. She formed a strong center back duo with Alysse Lamb Alysse Lamb D State MO as the two complemented each other very well. A very physical player, Baldus used her athletic frame to dominate in the air and also to dispossess opponents with physical plays. She was very intelligent when she couldn’t make a tackle and instead opted to push the opponent away from the penalty box or into their weak side by putting strong pressure. She assisted in the team’s first goal with a long free kick cross and had other good moments in set pieces during the match.
Bryant did a great job operating as a hub for Lou Fusz’s play in midfield. Her passing and vision helped the team keep possession against HTX and also find teammates in good spots to make plays. She covered a lot of ground in midfield and was very active on both sides of the ball. Bryant also had a major offensive role with the team, scoring the first goal with a difficult header, assisting in the team’s last goal and also hitting the post at the end of the first half.
Highlights
Henderson was the engine of Lou Fusz in midfield, remaining very active during the entire match and playing big roles on both sides of the ball. She was often tasked with defending HTX’s most creative midfielders and managed to limit their chances in a very strong way with her smart positioning. She was also very effective in possession, connecting great passes, most of them in one-touch plays, and also offering support in the attacking third. Henderson was impressively consistent and kept her high level of play until the final whistle.
Hopkins had an impressive match with Lou Fusz, playing in three different roles and performing well in each of them. She spent most of the match as an offensive player, playing in wider positions on the right and left, and generated some good chances for the team, assisting in their goal. In the final minutes, she played left back and did a fine job there too, shutting down HTX’s late attempts. Hopkins also played an important role as a vocal leader for Lou Fusz, organizing the team on the field and praising and encouraging teammates after good plays.
White was a difference-maker for Lou Fusz, scoring twice and creating all sorts of issues for HTX up top. She played more centrally, but never kept her position, moving to the flanks to get on the ball and use her pace and dribbling ability. She was very successful at taking the ball to the end line and getting crosses, but also dropped deeper at times to make runs and combination plays through the middle. The two goals she scored showed how good of a finisher she is as each of them demanded a different approach from her. White also worked really hard off the ball and avoided an HTX goal by making a clearance over the goal line after a free kick.
Diaz was HTX’s most cerebral player in the match and was the one her teammates looked to when in possession. She did a good job in keeping possession and helping the team circulate the ball, but couldn’t quite break Lou Fusz’s defensive system and make much of an impact in dangerous areas of the field. She also played a big role in set pieces and almost scored in one.
Highlights
HTX’s striker was very involved in the match as, with the team having difficulties to penetrate Lou Fusz’s defense through the middle, they often sent long balls her way. Taylor used her strong frame and engaged in several physical battles with Addison Baldus Addison Baldus null | D O’Fallon | 2025 State #307 Nation MO , winning some and losing some. She scored the team’s only goal in a play in which she displayed great footwork and good finishing skills inside the penalty box and almost scored another one with a header off of a free kick.
