From the 2008 age group/U16, this is an opportunity to play in front of scouts prior to the start of the recruiting for the 2026 class. There are going to be plenty of eager scouts on the sidelines looking at prospective recruits as they finalized their 2025 classes and look toward the even more distant future with the sophomore class.
Below are some of the top teams to watch from the 08 Champions Cup games.
Lou Fusz GA 08
Lou Fusz started the Girls Academy season with a 14-0 victory and not much has slowed the team down since then. The Missouri squad is a perennial favorite and this group is as talented as they come.
Selvy is a standout in goal for Lou Fusz. Athletic, competitive, and driven, Selvy is among the best in her position in her region. A frequent invitee to US Soccer Talent ID Centers, Selvy has impressed shots with her consistent play and shot-stopping abilities. She is one of the best goalkeepers in the Girls Academy. Her ability to stop players on breakaways and her knack for making the one save in the game after not seeing much action for the rest of the contest really sets her apart from her peers. Lou Fuss’s tough schedule in the Champions Cup should put her firmly in the spotlight for the three games.
Highlights
Gansner is one of the top players in the region and continues to show it this season with her play at the GA level. She can play a wide variety of spots on the field from the defense all the way up to forward. There is a potential future for her in pretty much every role. The left-footed player offers speed and cleverness on the ball. She’s a strong defender, which shows the potential for her to be one of the best left backs in the country.
City SC GA 08
Undefeated in one of the most difficult conferences in the Girls Academy, City SC has definitely put their name in the conversation among the favorites in this age group. The squad is loaded with Youth National Team talent across the board. Sloane Phillips Sloane Phillips 5'7" | M Temecula Valley | 2026 State #52 Nation CA is the top name from the group. Much of the team’s play tends to go through her in the center of the field, but there is talent all over the roster.
Martin was one of the top performers from the PrepSoccer Camp. She’s a gifted dribbler with excellent balance on the ball. She was so tough to knock off the ball and she did well in operating through the center channel. Martin is the type of player who can impress a scout in this setting and then get the whole coaching staff ecstatic with her performance at an ID event on campus.
Jaiden Sidhu
Jaiden Sidhu
Sidhu is the left center back for this team. She is one of the leaders of the defense. She reads the game well and gets into the right spots. She’s a good 1v1 defender and uses her body well in duels. Sidhu is a solid passer and can find the outlets in the midfield, which helps facilitate the City style of play. Sidhu is one of the players on the City team who has been part of the US Soccer Talent ID events in the past.
South Shore Select 08 GA
South Shore Select has yet to kick off Girls Academy games this season, but the team showed enough at the end of last season to suggest they will be among the best at this event. The Massachusetts team is getting a bit test in Southern California during these three games. Here are some of the key players to watch from this group.
Teagan Forde
Teagan Forde
Forde is a forward for South Shore Select. She is also part of the Ireland U16 National Team. She can play on the wing or in the center. She has a good first touch and excellent control of the ball under pressure. She is good with either foot and has excellent vision as a playmaker at the point of the attack. Forde will be a priority for scouts to watch at this event as one of the top players from the Northeast.
Larissa Rubeiz
Larissa Rubeiz
Rubeiz is a defender on the South Shore 08 GA team. She is excellent at intercepting passes – with a quick first step and good anticipation, Rubeiz is often getting in front of the intended target on passes. On the ball, she plays with her head up and makes good decisions on when to play into her teammates feet and when to look long. She has the potential to be a top player at this event.
