Continue ReadingThe US Club Soccer id2 National Identification program has been one of the most successful early identifiers of top talent in the United States in the sport over the past couple of decades. The program was established in 2004 and has a long list of successful alums including many members of the U.S. Men’s National Team and U.S. Women’s National Team.
This year’s edition of the id2 National Identification features the 2010 age group. The process starts with nationwide scouting from leagues and Player Development Programs. From there the scouting funnels to id2 Selection Events and then id2 Regional Training Camps. The top players from those camps are selected for the id2 International Tour – the Boys team will be headed to Portugal in April of 2024.
The East Regional Training Camp was held last month in Tampa. Forty players were called into the camp. Check out some of the names to know from the camp below and check out the full roster.
Ali Sakr
Ali Sakr
Sakr is a midfielder on the Nationals 2010 ECNL team. He has previously trained with Sporting KC and Columbus Crew Academy. He can play a variety of positions – the no. 8 role is probably his best spot on the field, but I’ve also seen him on the right wing as well. He is right footed and takes free kicks for his club team. The Nationals program has produced a number of players on the professional pathway at numerous MLS academies across the country and Sakr looks like the next in line from the 2010 group. The game looks easy to Sakr. He glides through opponents with ease most times – although he did face a big challenge against Crossfire earlier this season. The potential is obvious as he has the quality to take over a game at any moment. He is a top player to watch from this group for his versatility and potential.
Shervin Nia Shervin Nia GA
Shervin Nia Shervin Nia GA
Nia is a forward on Concorde Fire Platinum 2010 Boys ECNL. He plays on the left wing. He is part of the Georgia ODP team in his age group too. Nia is left footed. He is a top attacking talent from the Southeast. He combines speed, skill, and excellent ball striking technique to be a top winger from this class. Nia has been outstanding in ECNL this season with his 1v1 skills. His passing and vision also impressed for the position. His recognition of advantages for his teammates and ability to play the early pass stood out among his peers. The difference-maker qualities in the final third make him a top option from this group.
Chase Giannell
Chase Giannell
Giannell is a goalkeeper on the Parkland SC Boys 2010 ECNL team. He is regarded as one of the best in the 2028 class from Florida. Giannell impressed with his all-around game for the position. He has the physical profile to be a top level prospect for the position. He possesses the athleticism and quick reactions required for goalkeepers. He has strong hands and has shown the ability to snag balls out of the air in traffic. His distribution is a point of emphasis of his scouting profile. He has a strong right leg and can switch the field quickly. Giannell has all the tools to be a top player in his position in the future.
Jack Clayton
Jack Clayton
Clayton is a midfielder/forward on the Queen City Mutiny 2010 MLS Next team. He can play as an attacking midfielder or on the wing. Clayton is also a standout on the futsal court. The attacking talent offers creativity in 1v1 situations as he possesses excellent ball control and remarkable elusiveness in tight spaces. Clayton’s quality should shine in the international game as he can dance around opponents with his quick feet and close control with either foot.
Jonathan Batres-Gutierrez
Jonathan Batres-Gutierrez
Batres-Gutierrez is a midfielder on the Concorde Fire Platinum 2010 Boys ECNL team. He is listed as a defender on his player profile, but I’ve seen him play defensive midfield. He seems like he could be a great center back as well. His physical stature immediately stands out from game film – he’s often among the tallest players on the field. His asserts his strength at the right times to control the middle of the field for his side. He does an excellent job at protecting the back four. He is good on the ball and looks capable of hitting cross field passes with accuracy. Batres-Gutierrez offers a lot of the attributes that scouts look for from a defensive midfielder.
Geremy Rosero
Geremy Rosero
Rosero is a midfielder from Houston Futsal/Houston Dynamo. He is a flashy player who has a flair for catching the eye of bystanders with his nifty moves on the ball during the run of play. Rosero’s skill from the futsal court translates to the field as he keeps control of the ball and often sends defenders tumbling over their feet while trying to stop him. His change of pace and ability to cut on a dime really stood out from game film. Rosero’s soccer smarts and technique make him a top player among the attacking midfielders in this group.
