The event will reunite some of the top players of the Conference, which features club teams from Louisiana, Missouri and Texas. Here are some of the most promising names that will be in action this weekend:
Yumari Hernandez
Yumari Hernandez
Hernandez is the starting goalkeeper of the BVB IA NTX G07 team. An El Salvador Youth international, she’s one of the top goalkeepers of the Conference and will have another opportunity to show it this weekend in Carrollton. Hernadez is extremely agile between the posts and it’s easy to see how confident she is in her game. The keeper commands the penalty box with great authority, leaving the goal to collect crosses and through balls and consistently communicating with the defenders in front of her. She’s also a solid shot-stopper, who is extremely reliable with long-distance shots and has the reflexes to make stops from close range.
Francesca Johnson
Francesca Johnson
Johnson plays center back for Rise SC G07. Recently crowned as an SPC state champion with her high school team Episcopal, she does a very good job inside and around the penalty box for the team, being very successful in her defensive actions. ‘Franny’ has the size and physicality to battle strikers inside the penalty box, but is also very quick and smart to make anticipations and cut passing lanes. The center back also does a solid job in possession, keeping things simple and connecting good passes out of the back.
Danielle Santana
Danielle Santana
Santana plays multiple roles in the backline of Lonestar Black G08. A very mobile player, she can be used in the center of the backline or as an outside back, a role that gives her more freedom to impact the game offensively too. Santana thrives on positioning and is very good at reading plays and getting to the ball before opposing attackers. That skill is particularly valuable when she’s deployed as a center back, where she constantly needs to cover her teammates and avoid balls in behind. Santana also has good quality in possession and can be dangerous when she brings the ball inside to make plays.
Ava Kim
Ava Kim
Kim is an attacking midfielder for Renegades SC G07, playing a couple of age groups up for them. She’s very skilled on the ball and extremely technical and most of what the team creates goes through her at some point. A lefty, Kim is excellent at dribbling in tight spaces and has great vision to slide through balls and make switches. Because of her pace and finishing ability, she can also play up top, offering a big threat to opposing defenders. Kim is also very smart and disciplined with the work she does off the ball, putting pressure on opposing defenders and often forcing them to play long.
Brawner is a forward for Lou Fusz G09 and is among the top offensive talent in the age group. She is skilled enough to dribble, pass and finish with either foot and that gives her a big advantage against defenders as there’s so much she can do with the ball that it makes it hard for them to anticipate against her. Because of her excellent skill set, she can hurt defenses by running in behind them or by dropping back to make combination plays. Brawner moves extremely well without the ball and is very calm and efficient to finish chances inside the penalty box.
Highlights
Lexi Baker
Lexi Baker
Baker is a forward for HTX G09. She knows her way inside the penalty box and is always well-positioned to finish chances, displaying a very high soccer IQ. She also knows when it’s necessary for her to drop back and assist in the team’s playmaking and she can do it extremely well, using her body to shield the ball and her talented left foot to dribble and connect passes. Baker also does very good work without the ball as she identifies the best way to put pressure on defenders to win the ball in dangerous areas of the field.
