Below is a scouting report on a few players from the rankings who stood out from game film during the past few months.
Minor is a wide midfielder/winger on the IMG Academy 08 GA team. She plays on the left wing, but she is right footed. She tends to cut inside to rip off the shot. Minor is a great a great two-way player. She is a sound 1v1 defender and can hold her own in any duel. She is physical in the tackle and uses her body well to dispossess the opposition. Minor is a bit one-foot dominant. She tends to reach with her right – in both the tackle and when intercepting the pass. She threw herself off-balance when she does this and leaves an opening for the opposition to get around her and makes it more difficult for her to recover. She has the recovery speed that it rarely matters at the club level, but it will matter in the future when the room for error is small. Minor has plenty of time to improve and develop that aspect of her game and she is in the right place for that.
Boedefled is a defender on the IMG Academy 08 GA team. She plays left center back for her club team. She is good with either foot and can play out of pressure going in either direction. She probably has a higher ceiling as a left center back but the versatility is certainly something that scouts will note when watching her game film. Boedefeld is a good defender. She can handle herself in 1v1 situations and rarely makes mistakes. She tends to play a bit more conservative than one might want from a player with her quality on the ball. She will wait on the ball at times rather than attack it – in regards to a clearance or a dropkick from the opposing goalkeeper. The cautious approach eliminates some risks, but it also allows the opposition time to step up. She has the quality on the ball to take down the clearance with one-touch so it’s keeping that confidence in her game that will allow her to be a more impactful player in the attack from a center back position.
Viola is a center back on the Florida Elite 09 ECNL team. She has been identified by US Soccer scouts and taken part in Talent ID event. Viola is an impactful player at the club level. She has a well-rounded game with his big actions often standing out for the game – aerial dominance being one part of it as she is a weapon on set pieces. Viola has a strong leg too and can hit an accurate pass over half of the field. Viola is one to watch in this class as she could quickly climb the rankings.
Weisberg is a midfielder on the Florida Elite 09 ECNL team. She is a talented attacking player. She is left footed. She strikes the ball well. She’s scored goals from outside of the box this season. She takes set pieces for her side. I was impressed with her ability to keep close control of the ball on the turn. She has good balance to withstand tackles when playing through the center. I think Weisberg might be overlooked some as her club team isn’t having the best season so far, but she’s shown the quality to be considered a player to watch in this group.
Baird is a goalkeeper on the Florida Premier 09 ECNL team. She is quick off her line with a good read on shot-stopping. I think she previously played on the field or may still spend some time on the field because she looks confident with the ball at her feet too. Baird is capable of the athletic diving save and shows good technique on those displays. She plays with a fearless attitude that helps her shut down close chances and battle when there is traffic in the box. Baird’s athleticism and technical prowess for the position makes her a top recruit among goalkeepers in this class.
Highlights
Clamp is a midfielder on the Florida Premier 08 ECNL team. She is a midfielder. She could play as either the box-to-box role or as the defensive midfielder. She impressed me with her composure on the ball. She was calm in playing out of pressure. She has a good first touch and does well with her body feints to keep defenders honest. She has good vision and found some nice outlet passes to her wingers to spring chances. Clamp’s technical ability is definitely the elite trait she brings to the table from this group.
