Below is a scouting report on the top talent from the class.
Dusenberry is a defender on the Ohio Premier 08 ECNL team. She is playing up an age group this season. She was part of the US U14 Girls National Team Central Regional Mini-Camp last year. She was also part of the ECNL Conference Cup during the summer. As a considerably decorated player, it’s easy to see why Dusenberry is getting opportunities against older competition this season. She is a fluid athlete with unlimited range. She makes everything look so easy. I was particularly impressed with her toughness while going against older players. She did not shy away from tackles and did well in organizing her side. Dusenberry is an elite talent for this class on a state and national level.
Highlights
Vann is a defender on the Cincinnati United Premier 09 GA team. She plays right center back for her club team. Vann was part of the US U14 Girls National Team Central Regional Mini-Camp last year. She’s not the big, imposing center back. She’s the super smart center back who has some unreal athletic qualities that will shock you. There were times while watching the CUP 09 game film that I thought the ball was over her head on a cross but she soared like jumping off a trampoline to get a head on the ball in traffic. She is skillful on the ball and can be a bit brazen when taking on players on the dribble. She has a good idea of her limits and she is willing to push the opposition if it gives her side the advantage. The slaloming runs with the ball at her feet does suggest potential at outside back in the future, but right now she is one of the best center backs in the nation in this class thanks to her soccer IQ and leadership qualities. Even though if she did try outside back, she is an exceptional 1v1 defender and always wins her duels. Vann is a player with a ton of potential and she is already playing at a very high level.
Highlights
Canham was a bit of a surprise during scouting this class. She doesn’t have the same accolades of some peers at the top of the ranking, but she was in consideration for the best player in Ohio during the first round of ranking this group. She earned some honors at the high school level, but it was her play in recent Girls Academy games that really stood out. She is a midfielder/forward. She has a star qualities that suggest professional level aspirations should be in her future. The way she keeps control and balance dribbling through the center of the field is mesmerizing. She can be a bit right-foot dominant when on the ball especially in the final third as she wants to hit that perfect strike with her preferred foot. If she adds a consistent strike with her left, she will be close to unstoppable. Her quick reactions, skill on the ball, and vision make her one of the best attacking players in this class.
Penote is a forward on the Ohio Elite 08 SA team. She can play as a winger or as a center forward. She is a terrific player. Dynamic on the ball, elusive in space, and a handful to slowdown. Penote offers the type of upside every scout searches for from an attacking player. She can beat any defender in this class on the dribble. She also can slice apart the competition with her passing. Among players not in the youth national picture, she should be considered one of the best.
