Prep Soccer Texas was there following matches of the 17s and 16s divisions on the first two days of action. We've already highlighted some of the players who had strong performances in the matches we got to watch, so now we'll expand it a little bit more, splitting the standouts by division and position. We covered the 17s division last week and are looking into the 16s now - in today's article, you will know some interesting center backs who were in action:

With Fontenot on the backline, Classics Elite RL 08 had a win and two losses over the weekend. A very physical defender, she played on the left side of their center back duo and did a very good job of stopping plays. Fontenot used her physical tools well to win duels, make clearances in the air and the ground and knock opponents out of plays, but was surprisingly quick and explosive to get to the ball and make interceptions. A lefty, she did a solid job with her passing too, especially when connecting short ones.

Albion Hurricanes FC RL 08 left the event with two wins and a tie and did a solid defensive job, with just one goal conceded. Playing in the middle of their back three, Currie was instrumental in their solidness, getting several stops. A physical player, she was excellent at heading crosses out of the penalty box and making clearances too when needed. Currie was always well-positioned and stepped up to cover her teammates on quite a few occasions. She also did a good when dragged away from the penalty box, knowing when to go for an interception and when to put pressure on opponents and push toward their own half.

Fuller's Lonestar SC Red 08 GA lost a couple of tough matches during the event, but still showed some interesting pieces. One of them was the center back, who combined physical and technical skills in a very productive well to lead their defensive efforts. She used her size to protect the penalty box and was very efficient in the air, but also showed good mobility to defend higher up on the field, handling quick attackers well and recovering in no time when she was beaten. Fuller was also very calm and mindful with the ball, taking her time to find the right pass and help her team break the pressure.

Young was a key piece in the DKSC 08 RL team that went undefeated in the Texas Shootout, getting two wins and a tie. The left-sided center back was excellent with her ability to read the game, consistently making interceptions and jumping to cut passing lines with great success. Young also did well when she faced opponents in 1v1 situations, waiting for the right moment to make moves and making things difficult for them. The defender also did a solid job in possession, playing it safe and efficiently with her passing.

Dicus was a bright spot in her Challenge USC RL 08 team that got a win and two losses in the event. She did a good job when dealing with crosses and long balls, getting into the right spot to clear the danger. Dicus was also firm in her tackles and won most of the disputes she was involved with. The center back also contributed to the team's buildup by finding smart passing options out of the back.
