Texas High School Soccer: 4A Goalkeepers to Watch

Texas high school soccer is full of fierce competition that encompasses every district within the UIL classifications. Within this competition, UIL 4A soccer has emerged as one of the most promising hotbeds of talented goalkeepers. These young athletes are the cornerstone of their team's defensive capabilities, and show their worth every match they play. From acrobatic saves to powerful charges into set pieces, these young goalkeepers play with passion and dedication to their craft.   Below are five of the most promising goalkeepers within all of Texas high school soccer UIL 4A. These goalkeepers have proven track records of making saves when called upon and maintaining high save percentages over the season. They deserve to be recognized for their contributions to their team's success and are all top prospects within their classification.    Overall Thoughts:   Troy Solis is a fantastic goalkeeper from the class of 2026 that has shown an impressive mixture of skill, consistency and mental prowess while between the sticks. Solis was a standout for Waxahachie Life during district play, tallying 85 saves and obtaining 10 clean sheets. Over the course of his sophomore campaign, Solis totaled 116 saves throughout 20 matches and maintained a save to game average of 5.8. Solis was recognized as 1st Team All-District Goalkeeper, as well as the goalkeeper for the 1st Team All-State team. The confidence with which Solis plays with on the pitch is truly inspirational and the control in which he has is envious. Solis is able to utilize his physical attributes to maintain his presence within his box and control the area around him. He has great agility and relaxes, as well as good technical ability for a goalkeeper at the high school level. Solis ended the year with a total of 116 saves, making him one of the most reliable keepers within all of Texas high school soccer. Solis has the ability to make accurate kicks and throws when distributing the ball, and can be trusted to initiate a counter attack when called on. He has great command of the penalty area and his 10 clean sheets show the consistency that he plays with. Ulloa is characterized by his high save rate and tendency to produce shutouts. Obtaining 103 saves over his 21 games played, Ulloa was more than reliable between the sticks and combined his technical ability with great athleticism to become one of the best keepers within Texas high school's 4A classification. Ulloa's 7 clean sheets and 4.9 save per game percentage helped to earn him a 1st Team All-District selection. Ulloa's athleticism and poise under pressure show a young athlete with great potential.   Size Profile:   Luis Ulloa has a good athletic build and at 5'11 he is more than tall enough to compete at the upper echelons of high school soccer. His build and athleticism allows him to cover his goal and control the space within his box. Ulloa has great reaction time and uses his height well to make athletic saves when necessary. Being in the class of 2026, Ulloa has plenty of time to continue to develop and surely will become a physical presence within the goal as he grows   Skill Set:   Ulloa averaged 4.9 saves in each of his 21 games over the season and provided more than enough evidence to show his reliability within game changing moments. The quickness in which Ulloa was able to react, along with the intelligence in which he plays, allows Ulloa to maintain a high shot stopping percentage. Ulloa is capable of making precise passes to boost transition out of the back. Ulloa's passing ability gives his team a great advantage over the opposition due to their ability to possess the ball from both sides of the pitch. Ulloa even showed his own prowess for goal when he was able to score off a long free kick.      Overall Thoughts:   Caine Cruddas is an athletic and multi-positional goalkeeper from the class of 2026. Cruddas has demonstrated fantastic goalkeeper skills and a high level of consistency throughout his sophomore campaign. Cruddas obtained 97 saves on the year and maintained a 90% save percentage as well, giving him a save to game average of 4.0. He is decently athletic and possesses the physical characteristics necessary to play goalkeeper at a high level.Cruddas' athleticism allows him to make rapid decisions utilizing quick reflexes to make the necessary saves. Cruddas is sure to continue to develop technically and physically over the remainder of his high school career, making him a prospect to keep tabs on over the next few seasons.   Skill Set:   Cruddas is excellent between the posts and his 90% save percentage shows how remarkable his performances have actually been. Cruddas averaged 4 saves per game over the campaign and utilized his good reflexes and athletic ability to disrupt the opposition's attacking chances. Cruddas ability to maintain great positioning and utilize solid decision making allowed him to dominate the box and collect his high number of saves. Cruddas even contributed to his teams success as a field player, adding 3 goals and 2 assists to his teams offensive efforts. This shows how much Cruddas is capable of contributing to his team's overall success. Players like Cruddas are known as difference makers and are able to perform when and wherever they are asked to.      Initial Thoughts:   Sebastian Heredia is a prolific goalkeeper within Texas high school soccer's class of 2026. Heredia's reliability and dedication to his team has been proven through the success he has had on the pitch. Heredia made an outstanding 77 saves over the span of 23 games and averaged 3.3 saves per match. His goalkeeping ability was critical to his teams success on the pitch over the course of the season. Heredia is going to improve even more as he finishes his high school career and will surely be a great prospect for any college team looking to boost their reliability between the sticks.   Size Profile:   Heredia stands at 5 '9 and weighs in around 180 lbs, making him a strong and solid option at goalkeeper. Heredia's athletic build allows him to take charge within the penalty area and dominate the opposition when in the air. Heredia utilizes his strength to body the opposition off of attacking opportunities and position himself in the proper spacing to make critical saves. While Heredia is not the tallest keeper out of the selection from Texas high school soccer's 4A classification, he makes up for it with pure athleticism and goalkeeping ability.   Skill Set:   Heredia possesses exceptional shot stopping skills and utilizes his reflexes to make saves under attacking pressure. Averaging 3.3 saves per game, Heredia has a proven track record of making saves whenever his team calls upon him. Heredia's decision making and ability to read the game gives him the ability to position himself in the necessary position to disrupt the opposition's attack. Heredia is also able to cover ground quickly due to his athleticism and effectively distributes the ball to his team when building out of the back.     Initial Thoughts:   James Jacob is another great goalkeeping prospect from the class of 2026. While Jacob is a little more rough around the edges than other prospects, he still shows a great amount of potential and has shown a lot of success so far in his playing career. Jacob uses agility and athletic play to excel within the goal. Over the 2023-24 season, Jacob made 34 saves in 21 matches and helped his team have a highly successful season. Jacobs developmental potential makes him an exciting prospect for any collegiate scout looking for one for the future.   Size Profile:   Jacob comes in at 5'6 and 140 lbs, making him one of the smaller prospects in 4A soccer. However, Jacob defies the critics with his combination of athleticism and agility to help him find success within the box. Jacob can expect to grow and develop more physically over the remainder of his high school career and with the right development should be able to add some significant muscle to his frame as well. Either way, Jacob can rely on his impressive reflexes and ability to move quickly on or off the ball.   Skill Set:   Jacob's primary strength is his athleticism and ability to position himself correctly within the box. Jacob knows that he's not the most physically imposing keeper but covers his net well and makes saves when called upon. Jacob's ability to make these difficult saves shows his potential to continue to improve as he gains experience and grows into a more mature player.
