NCHSAA Playoffs Round One Best Players: Part 1

The playoffs started in all four levels this weekend and will continue for the rest of the week. A total of 256 teams qualified for Round One, and alongside them, plenty of talent. The shortlist I've compiled includes over 100 names, but for brevity's sake, it will be condensed into a few dozen. The best players of Round One will need multiple parts to evaluate, and in this part, the focus will be entirely on the 1A West level.
1A West
Maximilian is an attacking midfielder who aids his attackers immensely. An agile player who plays behind the striker, he also knows how to use his body. Whether it be in regaining possession high up the field or getting past defenders, he's intelligent in using his body. He links up with his teammates great in build-up, making transitions very effective. Not only is his passing great but so is his shooting. A powerful shot from far out, or a composed finish in the box, he's a constant threat anywhere. A player I've previously written about, Jaydon is an excellent attacking leader. Unlike in other matches, however, he played in a central role rather than out wide. In this position, his individual brilliance shines brighter. Skipping past defenders with ease should be easier out wide, but he does so also playing centrally. He progresses his team forward, turning defense into attack seamlessly. His work in leading his team from the front is admirable, but his job in front of goal is even better. Even in adverse conditions, he still manages to find composure to score great goals. Cold-bloodedness is not reserved just for open play but for penalties too. Uwharrie moves on thanks in most part to the brilliance of Jaydon. Angel is the most impressive among all the gems in Mount Airy. A striker who knows how, when, and where to move, he's a handful for defenders. Skillful and agile, you'd think he's a winger with his technical ability. He surely can play out as a winger with crossing being another virtue of his. Accompanied by brilliance around him makes his talent shine stronger since his link-up play always leads to danger. He's not only a headache for the defenders but also the goalkeeper. Being in front of goal does not scare him one bit, which puts him at a mental advantage vs the goalkeeper. Cain is an imposing defensive midfielder and the heart of his team. Most plays pass through him since he knows where to position himself to receive the ball. His distribution is phenomenal, which in turn makes the job easier for his attackers. He manages to create chances from deep, causing problems for the opposing defense. In defense, he is confident and forces plays to end with him or to go out wide. He is an indispensable player for an effective Avery team, and would be a great addition for any team regardless of tactics. Arop is an absolute gem who, due to a knock, didn't get to shine for the full 80. However, the wide midfielder leaves an impression for multiple reasons. Firstly, at 6'4, he makes for an unlikely talent out wide. His physical presence makes for an uncomfortable player for fullbacks to defend. That leads to the second point which is how skillful, confident, and fast he is. He is an absolute nightmare for defenders because of how naturally his technical ability comes to him. He plays knowing how good he is. That confidence is important for the final point which is his finishing. In the box, his technique to shoot is calm and collected, a contrast of the defenders and goalkeeper. Cooper is a highly effective player in a highly effective team. Of a cohort of talented players, such as Luke Garrison pictured above, Cooper was the most impressive. An aggressive pressing striker, he has defenders on high alert whenever one of them receives the ball. He wins the ball high up the pitch and he firmly sets his sights on that ball finishing in the back of the net. His style of shooting also makes for an effective striker too, not needing too many shots to get goals. Pace is a crucial part of his game too, which makes for an easier job for his midfielders and causes even more headaches for the opposition. Sixx is a conductor in midfield with the added benefit of being good in the box. When his team is in possession, he goes wherever the play goes. He supports his teammates as a constant option for a pass. The ball circulates around him because that's the way he wants it to. He has the ability to play accurate incisive passes as well as connecting crosses, even if the box is crowded. While his ability out of the box is his main forte, he can also give a helping hand in scoring. He anticipates defenders in getting the ball in the box, which added to his heading accuracy makes for an unlikely, but welcome, aerial threat.
