USE THE PROMO CODE almasin30 for a discount on your first subscription

Here's Part 2 of my Top 5 Goals. In my first year as a Prep Soccer Scout, I was able to capture some sensational goals during the high school season. Here are my top 5 goals for the Boys NorCal season, starting from the beginning of the season and moving on down towards the end of league competition. Highlights in this article are also from teams making their run to a playoff spot in section competition. Future parts will be on the section tournaments as well as the NorCal and possibly SoCal tournaments (essentially equivalent to a state championship). I want to give thanks to all the high school athletic directors and coaches for having me feature their teams and players. Many of the goals are from top-level players on really good teams.

This was one of the most anticipated matchups in league as well as in the CCS (Central Coast Section). The Bellarmine Bells came in ranked as the #17th team in CA and holds the top rank in the CCS. Both programs have had a lot of success in both their league and in CCS Championships. The Mitty Monarchs won last season's NorCal championship and the Bells won it the year before. Aside from it being the battle for 1st place in league play, playoff seeding implications are also on the line.

Goal #1 - Great sequence in winning the ball back and solid finish by #11 [player_tooltip player_id='277899' first='Gregory' last='Gutierrez'] of Bellarmine to give the Bells a 3-1 lead. Great day for the senior Striker in securing his team's 1st Place status in the highly competitive WCAL league.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1883271312946466882

Another cool night for a competitive SCVAL matchup. The Willow Glen Rams came in at 4th place against the 2nd place Leigh Longhorns team. Both teams fielded highly skilled club players and it was likely that this match could determine who goes to the big dance.

Goal #2 - Beautiful Goal by Woody Windhorst of Willow Glen. WG up 1-0 at the half.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1888072333245444441

Scored the opening goal of the match. The build up was a great 4 player touch combination before received it. He slipped between the defenders in the box and made a rocket shot to the top right corner. Woody made a few runs near the box and made precise passes to diagonal runners. Great in tight spaces and finds open pockets in the attacking third. He plays club soccer for MVLA.

The rain couldn't stop senior night for the Saint Francis Lancers, and so couldn't the Valley Christian Warriors. This WCAL matchup showcased some high-level club players. Both sides featured speedy forwards, quick ball movement, and intense loose ball challenges. In this league, every match could be decided by one goal, but we were in for a treat that night. This game had all the makings of a blowout as the Lancers took a commanding 3-0 lead at half. Saint Francis Forward Michael Scavotto scored two hard-earned goals while slicing through the defense and firing off two rocket shots on goal.

Goal #3 - 2nd Goal by Michael Scavotto in the first half - Saint Francis up 2-0 at this point.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1889870857763492185

He's a fast player with quick acceleration. He can get behind the defense in a blink of an eye. Michael ran through the defense on a number of occasions, and his efforts got him the first and second goals of the match. His second goal was impressive as he sliced through a couple of defenders before firing off a rocket shot past the goalkeeper. His impact on his team was also felt when making precise passes and drawing defenders to him before laying the ball off to open players. He also had an assist on his team's 3rd goal. It seems that every time the ball was in the attacking third, he was their first option. He plays club soccer for Burlingame SC.

It was a gorgeous day at the Brady Family Stadium in San Mateo, CA. The crowd was ready for this highly anticipated and pivotal WCAL matchup. The Saint Ignatius Wildcats came in as the 3rd place team against the 2nd place Junipero Serra Padres. Both sides fielded some top-level club players. The results of this game could determine a spot in either the Division 1 or Division 2 bracket.

Goal #4 - Bonus: Three Goals Scored - We may be in for a scoring fest. Serra HS is up 2-1 at half. Goal scorers for Serra are #13 Lucas Faggiolly and #17 [player_tooltip player_id='144256' first='Nate' last='Coughlin']. Scorer for SI is #11 Mikel Gonzalez.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1890873961509998771

A [program_tooltip program_id='283461' first='San' last='Francisco Elite'], ECNL National Selection player and Bucknell commit, scored the second goal for the Padres. It was a beauty as 4 of his teammates started a passing combo from their side of the field before chipping it to him around the 20-yard line. Nate chested the ball forward and let it bounce once before striking it on the hop and directing it past the goalkeeper. He is currently leading the league in goals scored with 22.

Got his team's only goal in the closing minutes of the first half. It was a hard-earned goal as his team pressed high to recover the ball and set up a 3-ball passing combo to Gonzalez before he placed it in a small window just outside of the goalkeeper's reach. He also helped his team turn up their attack in the second half by pressing high and playing off of defensive mistakes. He plays club soccer for SF Elite Soccer Club.

He played mainly as a winger but also pushed up high at times. A Johnny-on-the-spot type of player. He was rewarded with a goal that initially was shot by another player and blocked by the keeper. His quick reflexes slide the ball to the back of the net before the defenders could react. He was also active on throw-ins and making quality connecting passes from the touchline. He plays club soccer for Woodside Soccer Club.

Another Epic matchup between the two heavyweights in the D1 West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL). This was the second time these teams met in league play. The Bellarmine Bells won the first round match in Archbishop Mitty's stadium by a score of 3-1. The Mitty Monarchs looked to even the score on the Bells home turf during Senior Night. The Monarchs came into this game as the 118th ranked team in CA and a 3rd place standing of (6-3-4). The Bells were the 21st ranked team in CA and held the 1st place standing of (11-0-2).

Goal #5 - Awesome finish by the Bells #10 Matthew Shimizu - At least 6 other Bellarmine players got a touch as the counter attack started from their end of the field.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1892421408568824109

If you are interested in signing up with Prep Soccer, USE THE PROMO CODE almasin30 for a discount on your first subscription.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1901345676673610217
