USE THE PROMO CODE almasin30 for a discount on your first subscription

Here's Part 2 of my Top 5 Goals. In my first year as a Prep Soccer Scout, I was able to capture some sensational goals during the high school season. Here are my top 5 goals for the Girls NorCal season, starting from the beginning of the season and moving on down towards the end of league competition. Highlights on this article are when teams are making their run to a playoff spot in section competition and section playoffs. Future parts will continue section tournaments as well as the NorCal and possibly SoCal tournaments (essentially equivalent to a state championship). I want to give thanks to all the high school athletic directors and coaches for having me feature their teams and players.

It was a cool, yet beautiful and sunny day in Mountain View, CA. The Archbishop Mitty Monarchs came in as the 6th ranked team in CA to reclaim the first place standing in league play. While the Saint Francis Lancers, the 5th-ranked team in CA, are looking to exact revenge for the season's lone defeat. Every time these teams meet on the pitch, the crowd will be in store for an epic matchup. In summary, this matchup could be considered equivalent to an all-star game, as both sides fielded some of the best players in the region and in the state. Also, a few are national ranked players as well.

Goal #1 - Goal #4 by Caitlin Motil secures the win. This was the 2nd matchup of the season and now both teams have won their home matches. It looks like the Lancers are on course to win the League Title. Can't wait to cover both teams CCS matches. Article will be published soon.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1888373413032661401

It was a beautiful day for soccer at the Wunderlich Field in Atherton, CA. Both teams fielded competitive, high-level club players. The Menlo Knights came into this match as the 1st place team at (6-1-2 and (12-4-3) overall. They also have a guaranteed spot in the CCS tournament and were ranked as the 168th team in CA. Their opponent, the Notre Dame Tigers, who aren't playing in the postseason, played as if this was a win to advance to the tournament match. They came out with the intention of getting a “W” and putting on a show for the crowd.

Goal #2 - Roya Rezaee of Menlo gets the opening score. A sequence of 6 different players getting a touch before the ball was slipped between defenders. Nice finish as she put it past the goalkeeper.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1891633819205157229

Rarely does the season finale end with two teams keeping their current standing. A win or a loss decision didn't really matter for this game, but let's just say that one team was out to prove a point. The Leigh Longhorns, the 16th ranked team in CA and 1st (7-1-1) and (13-1-2) overall, came into the Pat Tillman Stadium without a bunch of their starters. The Leland Chargers were the 60th ranked team in CA and in 2nd place at (5-1-3) and (9-2-6) overall. Not sure if the Chargers rested any of their starters, but it was evident that they were definitely looking for a win.

Goal #3 (3 + Bonus Goals) - Three different scorers - The Leigh Longhorns at Leland Chargers game ended with a 2-1 victory by Leland. Both teams battled it out and the only difference was the 2 set piece goals by #8 [player_tooltip player_id='19102' first='Annika' last='Park']. The Longhorns got a late goal by #20 [player_tooltip player_id='111131' first='Shani' last='Outlaw'].

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1892099491693474023

The weather conditions were great during this first quarterfinals match at Higgins Field in Mountain View, CA. The Pioneer Mustangs came into this playoff match as the number 8 seed, with an overall record of (13-3-4). I covered a previous match in which they played the Leigh Longhorns, the 7th ranked team in CA at that time. It was a really close match, and they looked to pull off an upset. In this match, the team they would have to beat in order to get to the semifinals is the current 15th ranked team in CA. The Saint Francis Lancers have an impressive overall record of 16-2-1. The Lancers are also ranked as the 63rd team in the nation. The Lancers won the game in OT as they were tied at 1 a piece at the end of regulation.

Goal #4 - [player_tooltip player_id='111250' first='Penelope' last='Correa Mason'] scores in the 12th minute of the 2nd half to put Saint Francis up 1-0.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1893448526601805868

The stage was set for a semifinals match with teams with similar names. The Menlo Knights and the Menlo-Atherton Bears. The Knights came into this playoff match as the 98th ranked team in CA, with an overall record of (14-4-3). They were the 2nd place team in the West Bay – Foothill League with a record of (7-1-2) in league play. Although they conceded 19 goals up to this point, they have 9 clean sheets and a stubborn defense to contend with. They advanced by beating 5th seed Carlmont (14-4-2) in a penalty shootout (5-4 PKs). The Bears are the home team and the #1 seed in this Division 3 tournament. They advanced by winning #8 Pajaro Valley (17-1-2) in the quarterfinals by a score of (3-0). The Bears also have a really good defense with 8 games in which they prevented teams from putting goals on the board. The Knights advanced to the Final match with a 2-1 victory.

Goal #5 - [player_tooltip player_id='202653' first='Everleigh' last='Porter'] scores in the 7th minute of the 2nd half to put the Menlo Knights up 1-0.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1894933959039205793

she scored in the 10th minute of the 2nd half on a beautiful set piece from just outside the 18-yard box. She made a perfect dipping shot that went over the three-person wall and dropped right below the crossbar. Ten minutes later she scored from another set piece from the opposite side of the field, a bit further out from the previous spot. It was a low skipping shot that got between the defenders and barely hit the left side goal post.

Had a great game as she scored 2 goals to secure the win. The second goal might have been a questionable call, but the referee seemed to have made the right decision. She was active in the middle of the field, making combination passes and during recovery. Her footwork skills are upper level as she weaved through the defenses on multiple occasions. She finds open spots in the defense and times her runs well. She plays club soccer for [program_tooltip program_id='283257' first='Bay' last='Area Surf'].

She had an excellent game as she opened up the scoring in the 12th minute of the 2nd half. She received a pass just outside of the 18-yard box on her right side, then she pulled it to the left and sent it home towards the opposite post. It was a spectacular goal as the goalkeeper almost made a diving save. She more than likely got the game MVP honors as she also scored the winning goal, her 2nd, in the 1st half of OT.

If you are interested in signing on with Prep Soccer, USE THE PROMO CODE almasin30 for a discount on your first subscription.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1901345676673610217
