With goals scored by defenders in different halves, the rivals tied 1-1.

[program_tooltip program_id='283612' first='Austin' last='FC'] U15 vs. [program_tooltip program_id='283648' first='FC' last='Dallas'] U15 - Photos

Playing at home, Austin scored first in the 34th minute of the first half. Left back Aiden Vega beat a Dallas defender for the ball on the left and crossed it to right back William MacPherson, who closed on the back post and connected a first-time shot into the back of the net. Dallas leveled the score in the 21st minute of the second half, when left back [player_tooltip player_id='295564' first='Jackson' last='Pea'] picked up the rebound of a cross just outside the box and fired a powerful shot that hit the inside of the crossbar before bouncing beyond the goal line.

Players of the Match

Playing as a left-sided center back, Newbrough was very good for Austin, leading their backline with a high level of play. He was excellent defensively, reading plays before everyone else to intercept passes, dominating opponents in 1v1 duels and popping up at the right spot to block shots inside and around defensively. Very calm and comfortable on the ball, he was a key cog in the team's methodical buildup. Austin would exchange passes inside their own penalty box after every goal kick or save, and it was Newbrough who consistently broke Dallas' press with accurate long balls and confident moves to beat opponents and dribble the ball forward.

Vega had a very solid shift at left back for Austin, standing out on both sides of the game. He was matched with Dallas' talented winger TJ Olowu for most of the match and held his own, winning some and losing some, but managing to keep him out of the penalty box on most occasions. Vega's passing also played an important role in Austin's buildup, as defenders looked for him when under pressure, and he managed to connect long passes that got the team forward. The left back did very well in the play of Austin's goal, using his pace to beat a Dallas defender for the ball and delivering a perfect cross for MacPherson to score.

A defensive midfielder, Lopez had a consistent and productive performance in the center of the field for Austin. He did well in shielding the team's backline while also covering a lot of ground defensively and often making plays on the sides of the penalty box. Lopez showed strong defensive skills, managing to intercept passes and win duels, and always played with great determination to win the ball. The defensive midfielder also did well in possession, creating space with quick turns and moves in the center of the field, and quickly moving the ball to the opposite side of the field to find teammates open.

The left back was consistently productive on both sides of the ball for Dallas. Despite not being very tall, Pea did very well defensively, keeping opponents under constant pressure and making firm and accurate plays for the ball. He was constantly in the attacking half and showed interesting skills to support his team's offense. Pea got to the end line on some occasions and managed to deliver accurate crosses into the box, but also had success bringing the ball inside from the left and overloading the center of the field. He scored the team's goal with a powerful and well-placed shot from outside the box.

Schmitz's quality on the ball and versatility were huge assets for Dallas in the match. The left-footed player started the match in central midfield and was very active in the team's buildup, getting the ball from the defenders and moving it upfield with accurate passes and runs through the middle. Schmitz was moved up to more of an attacking role in the second half and continued to make the right choices with his distribution, delivering great passes in the final third. He also got into good spots to finish chances, but had his shots blocked. Schmitz ended the match playing right back, and, although his offensive presence was limited in that position, he was very solid defensively.

A left-sided center back, Coriano has a very strong performance in Dallas' backline. Combining good size, excellent mobility and intelligent positioning, he stood out in different ways defensively, shutting down many of Austin's attempts. Coriano was very good at defending the penalty box, using his reading to anticipate the trajectory of crosses and his length to clear them. He was very quick to make plays outside the box, too, getting to cover his teammates in wide areas fairly often. The left-footed center back also showed quality on the ball, delivering accurate long balls into the final third and breaking Austin's press with direct passes through the middle.
